I have to say Dave that this statement beggars belief. I wouldn't want anyone even half as much of a knobhead as Barton playing for NCFC. All I can say is that I'm glad we swerved Fernandez ! <doh>

i'll defend fernandes on this. i think he might have to say that at this stage cos i'm sure there'll be an investigation. would be great to see an owner sack him but we all know that it's a difficult route to take. still glad he never ended up here though!

Yeah don't want a constructive dismissal charge. Can't see him staying.
Can see the FA being quite heavy handed too, he has enough form with assault to really throw the book at him. He shows no willingness to learn from his mistakes and brings the game into disrepute on a regular basis.

This is the reason we are very glad to have Fernandes. Clearly an owner with the long-term interests of the club at heart. Why else would anyone invest heavily in a training ground that will take minimum 5 years to show benefits? I think he is a far superior owner than many NCFC fans give him credit for.

Yes, on this issue he is being cautious, but that is his job! (I say that as a QPR fan who wants to see Barton sacked, but understand there is a due process which needs to be followed.)

Edit - I would also like a heavy and long FA punishment against the player.

sounds like good news for qpr. us norwich fans are delighted he never got involved in our club though - he tried to buy us and our CEO felt he would have been very bad news for our club. if you're happy with him then great but i doubt you'll find a single norwich fan who thinks he'd have done anything good for our club <ok>

Superman, I have no problem with that at all, but do you know why your CEO felt like that? No bone to pick on my part, just interested!

If he was accepted at our club, he would never have had to invest heavily in a 'state of the art' training facility, as we already have one.

All he would have had to worry about was when he could increase the capacity at Carrow Road.

all i know is that he was difficult to get hold of, refused to engage in talks about investment first before a full takeover (ie a test period first) and that his plans were at odds with the current board. other than that he was perfect <laugh>

Superman, glad indeed we're both happy. Appears he was the wrong man at the wrong time for you, but quite the opposite for us. Both clubs appear to be chugging along well now. (Narrow escape for us!) I expect us both to stay up next year. How do you think the new Fizzy Pop crop will do? Flourish or falter?

Barton's career is testament to English football's willingness to forgive everything for the sake of success on the field. He's not the only current example of it, never mind examples from the past. Tony Fernandez says he is waiting to receive the advice of the "more experienced people" at the club before acting. That's exactly what he should do. But if the experienced people wheel out the same old morally bankrupt line, I hope he rejects it.

I think the true test of this will be if Ched Evans ever sets foot on a football pitch in a professional game. Assuming he escapes jail on appeal, or with an early enough release to still be young enough for a career, it'll be interesting to see how quickly he gets snapped up.

Yes and no. Whilst he was found guilty by an FA ruling, he never went to a criminal court over it. Terry on the other hand is going to stand trial, so depending on the outcome of that, it'll be interesting to see whether he still has a contract with Chelsea next season.

Good point. <ok> With Terry in any line of work he could easily be sacked. But with what Barton did its hard to compare. Terry would be very likely to receive abuse. It's hard to say with Barton but its certainly a possibility. People may have forgotten by the beginning of next season.

I actually think he has handled this situation well.

He hasn't defended Barton and said he will leave any punishment to the manager and seek advice from more experienced personnel.

Surely that's better than an Abramovich style manager going in and doing as he pleases and disregarding the managers thoughts?
