http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...ham-set-lose-out-chase-real-madrid-midfielder Have we a curse on us or what. The daily headlines are now who we won't get, not who we will get!
Hmmm it does make you wonder, even if it's not a great source. Perhaps this is why sky are now reporting us to be interested in Hargreaves.
Normally, as it's Talkshite, I wouldn't give it much credence. However, as it ties in with what we suspected was the delay, last week. i.e. wages, then I suspect that this one could well be based in fact. We've seen it many times before, but the fact is, that top players won't come to Spurs for the money that we pay.
At the moment any media outlet that is not pushing the Modric line, might have some value. Yes the wages thing again- but if we can pick up some quality on the cheap and we can keep them fit and healthy so be it.
We should not bother trying to sign decent players from the main leagues or the top teams. Any player we are interested in of worth will end up some where else. Yes we have all gathered why this is happening. These problems are never addressed, so we just waste our time. The club at a higher level is run like blunt sword. The club has to be honest with itself, look at the lesser leagues of the world. We will have to shop at Netto , leave Waitrose for the rich and ambitious boys. We like to talk big but we are never taken seriously.
Bellamy, COle, Parker, Friedal, Hargreaves - what is it with Harry and the 'old boys' brigade. I've nothing against any of the aforementioned players, but the truth is that their best days are well behind them. The only one worth taking is Parker, primarily because he offers something in midfield that - Sandro apart - we simply don't have. I have no doubt that we are very well run financially, but IMO to finally make the top four and then sit back on our laurels is unforgiveable. Surely we are able to attract a better calibre of player?
Those players are experienced, Premiership quality and would have realistic wages. Diarra could have been a great signing but if he doesn't then want to accept wages that fit into our current structure then there's nothing we can do. If we're looking for players at a decent price, Germany's full of top defensive midfielders as most of their clubs play two at a time.
Germany, France, Holland, Portugal etc. Does Harry only use Sky for potential targets? Why haven't we got scouts out there trying to find some unknown gems like other clubs.
Yes, it seems that wages are now spiralling further out of control. I'm not sure whether we should follow such a path, but perhaps it says more about the state of the sport and also the mentality of the players themselves that despite having progressed notably over the last couploe of seasons, Spurs are struggling more than ever to attract the necessary players to compete at the top level. When did the game loose its soul? ...perhaps this is a little deep for this time in the morning - caffeine required methinks.
At the moment of those you mention we have only signed Friedal, the rest are speculation. It is clear that we are not yet in the top league when it comes to players wages it follows that we will have to look at good older players, young prospects or hidden gems. Remember we have found Modric, Bale, Sandro in recent times although none of these were in Harrys time. The window is nearly closed and once shut we will then have a better view of the clubs efforts to move forward. Apart from anything else I am looking forward to getting back to talking about the team we have, rather than one we might or might not have.
Another missed target- if it ever was. Fulham have agreed a £10.6m fee with FC Twente for winger Bryan Ruiz. From Skysports.
I would've had him! He's your Bellamy type player, can play on the left-wing as well as striker. I would've signed him as a striker tho, he averages about a goal per 2 games.
All you can say is he didn't catch the eye enough when HR watched him in the last week or two. It wouldn't surprise me that Jol may know something we don't, there again he's no stranger to buying duds. You could say Fulham signed him unopposed by any other team...make of that what you will!
I suspect that there is still some great talent waiting to be found, in Holland. But yes, I agree, it looks like the days of the extraordinary Ajax discoveries of the 80's and 90's, are now gone.
