Just came across this story in my twitter feed and very sad to hear it. In a really warped way I feel a connection with Hereford United after that horrible day in 1972, and growing up with 'that' goal being in the Match Of The Day beginning credits - or whatever you call the bit at the beginning.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26758090

Hereford United are to face a winding-up petition in the High Court of Justice in London on Monday, 7 April. The petition was issued on Wednesday by HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid £78,000 tax demand. Hereford chairman David Keyte warned last week that the cash-strapped Conference Premier club needed £300,000 to see out the current season. The Bulls reported losses of £499,000 for the year ending April 2013 at last week's annual general meeting.

Hereford evaded their last winding-up threat, over the non-payment of a £36,800 PAYE bill, in late January. Since then, they have undertaken a string of cost-cutting measures, including the sale of midfielder Josh O'Keefe to Kidderminster Harriers. On the pitch, Hereford have picked up three points from their last 10 games. Manager Martin Foyle and assistant Andy Porter left the club last week, with youth-team boss Peter Beadle taking temporary charge.

Hereford's financial troubles since their relegation from the Football League in May 2012 have been exacerbated by falling gates. Average crowds at Edgar Street this season have only been half of those in League Two just five years ago. Going into Saturday's home game with Grimsby, Hereford are four points clear of the Conference Premier relegation places.

Would be sad to see this happen. If it does happen I wonder how many times we'll be seeing Ronnie Radford bust the net on TV and online?

Football clubs are hard to kill.

The legal entity that is currently Hereford may be wound up. Same thing happened to North Shields a few years back.

The ground will still be there though. I expect that there will be another set of players wearing shirts with "Hereford" on it and the same old faces going through the turnstiles to watch them. The Robins, after all, are still going strong.

When certain fat bastards are on £300,000 a week it is just sickening that small club can go under. I've watched alot of conference football as my brother is a Luton fan and its mad how many teams that have had extreme financial trouble or who have sadly slipped away. Darlington and Stockport have suffered alot plus Rushden and Diamonds demise with so many other teams suffering points deductions. They won't be the last either I can promise you that. That drop into Conference is f**king hard I can tell you as it is a horrible league to get out of.

Some teams such as Wrexham and Grimsby that don't really have that financial clout can do nothing against those repulsive money bag teams such as Crawley and Fleetwood. Luton are different as their fanbase and statium size allows them to generate more revenue than most, they also have a good youth set up and have sold some promising youth to some premiership teams. Those triplets to Chelsea, Woodrow to Fulham, etc. They're not some tin pot team with a massive sugar daddy.

At times like this the Big Brothers of the football world could send a player or two to make a team up for a benefit match to help the small fry out.

It could be a good experience for younger players and would help Hereford no end.

    Good luck to them anyway.

Don't like to see any football club in bother, but if I had to choose one, it would be them. I can't stand the sods. Bloody long memory, me.

What Radford? It was f**king years ago mate. The Hereford fans don't deserve seeing their beloved club smote from the earth now do they?

Can't make head nor tail of that tbh.

Edit: didn't know what smote meant. <laugh>

As I said, I didn't like to see any club in trouble, but they would be top of my list.

It's ok, I just hate the sight of blood.

Unless it's Obi's of course and I don't mind that.
