The rich are getter richer and hang the rest. The Premier league have shown their arrogance and power to hold all football league clubs to ransome yet again. They want all the best young talent from the lower leagues but don't want to help with the investment. I'm glad that Town voted against these proposals by the premier league clubs but the motion was still carried 46 to 22. It has the feel of Turkeys voting for Christmas and for once in my life I find myself agreeing with Barry Fry!

Knew you would write something about this JWM. I have just read that myself and think it's a disgrace. I'm not even sure I want to be a part of the premier league anymore.
    This could go many ways.
I can see the championship becoming the prem 2 and it being closed. The rest of the football league would die and people would end up supporting the closest team to them in one of the two leagues. A lot of noses would initially be put out of joint but once you got past the older generation and to the new generation who know no different it would be OK. Just imagine if Ipswich and Norwich were to merge, we would all hate it but the new generation who aren't even born would come into the world knowing the new team and supporting them.
It could also end up with the prem closing itself off and the FL marketing itself for better tv deals. Wouldn't it be good to have loads of supporters cancelling their SKY subscriptions and paying whoever showed FL games, starving the premier league of some income and FL clubs refusing to sell players to them. A big :emoticon-0173-middl to the premier league might be needed.

As you live "State Side" what do you think of the sports leagues over there which are closed shops?

My view is that unfortunately the writing is on the wall for the format of professional football in this country! It is totally unsustainable as the rich bigger clubs get richer at the expense of the lower league clubs. This new ruling will just drive another nail in the coffin of the Football League and the Turkeys voted for Christmas! I think Town will be alright and to be honest I find the Championship far more entertaining and unpredictable than the over hyped product in the Premier League.

A little known fact is that the English Championship is the FOURTH most watched League in Europe! Only the Premiership, The Bundesliga and La Liga get higher attendances! In the grand scheme of things, when the Premier League do form a closed shop altogether, I would be glad to be a leading club in the Championship rather than a stagnating also ran making up the numbers in the "big" league! The whole structure at the moment is on shaky foundations and as soon as a few well known clubs like Plymouth go to the wall the domino effect will be unstoppable.

American sports don't interest me much. Most of them are 'stop, start in rhythm' and don't flow like football. You are rewarded being last in the league by getting first pick in the draft next year. It actually pays to come last instead of second from bottom, figure that one out!. Most sports have a salary cap (baseball excepted I think) so you can't attract players by offering them more if they're already on top wack. I think it would be more interesting here if every year one college team went up and one pro team had to play college again but it's been like this for so long that it will never happen.
I'm with you on the championship, much more even and competitive with a bit more honesty to the play. I would also rather have us play teams of equal quality than get tonked every week. We have a rich owner though, and if we got promoted and he ploughed some money in to make us more than just competitive I could be happy with that too. We all wish to play at the highest level and see our team matched up against the best but at what price? Personally I'm getting to the point of wanting to say **** off to the Prem, let them close shop and have the FL as a stand alone entity. Don't take any money from them and don't let them buy our players.

San Diego-When you say premier league you're probably only talking about 3 or 4 ownwers who want to take our football in a different direction.

Don't read too much into it,it will never happen.

Maybe you're right Naxos, but how many other teams will want to be a part of it if it wants to close shop?

What would we be called East Anglia United!

As far as I'm concerned The Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal & Spuds can all **** off and leave us to enjoy proper football once again!

Disagree to an extent Warky...........All clubs must have something to aim at.

I'm not saying that we can compete financially, but the bubble is close to exploding with many teams up there.

    Interesting times.

P.s.The German national team will win the Euros.
