Joining Hazard & Mourinho over the last 12 months and further afield Mikel, Essien, Ballack and Robben. <ok>

http://www.football-oranje.com/van-ginkel-opts-for-chelsea

Van Ginkel's agent has confirmed he will be joining Chelsea following talks with Mourinho and a guarantee of playing time.

When you are fighting clubs over the signature of a player, having a World Class manager with pedigree can often be the defining factor. Hopefully down the line the managerial appojntment of Jose will pay off, I certainly don't see it as a bad thing. Big manager can attract big names.

Chelsea are set to pay €10 million for the box to box midfielder, who has also been linked with Manchester United, and Eredivisie champions Ajax.

Sigh, another daily Fail artical, not even sure United or Chelsea have had any serious link to Van Ginkel.

Reports in the British media suggest Vitesse midfielder Marco van Ginkel will reject Manchester United to sign for Chelsea.
The Daily Mail are suggesting the 20 year old will move to Stamford Bridge, after a conversation with manager Jose Mourinho, and reassurances that he will be given first team football.

As the OP says, guarantee of first team football, if he turned down United it is because he knew that team was too good to get playing time thus he chose Chelsea instead. It's not quite the glory trip the OP wants to make out but this guy is meant to be good anyhow, he should handle the BPL well. He is a team player, just what Chelsea needs to stand any chance of gaining ground on United.

The poster never suggested midfield was United`s strongest position, he only repeated what the OP said, Ginkel feels he has more chance of getting game time at Chelsea than United. Read into that what you wish.

This argument only works if United made a for him. So since I'm pretty sure we won't be signing anyone till Moye's officially takes over, congrats on your uncontested signing. <ok>

Well ginkel plays in midfield, doesn't he? It's not like united are going to play him as a central defender... <laugh>

I was reading about this from a few sources and this particular sentence stood out:

"Van Ginkel's agent has confirmed he will be joining Chelsea following talks with Mourinho and a guarantee of playing time"

So a guarantee of playing time - are the days gone of train hard and earn a place in the team? Seems a very odd thing for Mourinho to come out with (if he did!). Yeah If you're splashing out top dollar for a quality player that pretty much guarantees them game time - but 10 Million Euros for a 20 year old (when you already have a quality midfield), come on FFS.

He previously was on trial at United. More like Ferguson's last signing, than Moye's first.

Guaranteeing playing time is very strange. What would that be saying to the players you already have, "erm guys, there is one slot less available in the starting 11" when this guy has not even arrived.

I reckon the fail just make things up as they go along

Our midfield (centre) consists of Ramires, Mikel (who might be leaving), Lampard (35 years old), Romeu (a year out with injury) and with the rest you're looking at academy products.

United paid £30m for a 19-year-old, Liverpool paid £20m for a 20-year-old and Arsenal paid £15m for a 17-year-old.

How dare we strengthen in an area that needs strengthening <doh>

Changing the goalposts now <laugh>. You were happy to use them as a 'reliable' source re Mourinho's supposed sacking.

Now now Drogs, can you quote me as EVER saying the fail or any other rag are reliable.

If you correlate posting a link with stating this source is reliable thats up to you, especially on a wum thread started by you guys<laugh>

Not if you could just supply the actual quotes where I said that then I will agree with you 100%

On the flip side you guys slate the fail links there and then post them here and believe them<ok> Who's moving goalposts now, sure ain't me:)

You didn't say they were per se, but you posted a link of theirs when I asked for proof which implies so. I'm on a phone right now so can't but its on the thread we were arguing on the manc board.
