Just stumbled across this blog from a 15 year-old which is well written and IMO sums up Holty perfectly. http://backpagefootball.com/premier-league/holt-good-enough-for-international-stage/ If, and to be fair it is a big IF, Holt is to get the call-up, he needs to bang in at least another 3-4 before the end of the season IMO. Hopefully starting with a brace today Cue Warky, Hampy, Welly et all
Hardly Beefy. Your players collectively need hundreds of caps to catch up what ours have achieved on the England stage. If England win the trophy and Holt scores the winner in the final i'll be cheering as loudly as anyone else - but it's not realistically going to happen is it?
it's that thing again isn't it - with all the masturbation over Swansea at the moment I'm sure Graham would be ahead of Holt and you'd be more likely to throw Crouch in or play Walcott or Young up front than go with someone with no international caps into a major tournament. Again, it's Ruddy who really deserves a call up and not Holtimus Maximus.
Thought that'd rattle the cages lol but seriously, he going to score and when he does, they'll bring up what he did to Ipswich, and thats going to hurt
Good heavens, they nearly all appeared in that very order! So while they discuss us being obsessed with their club, they are obsessed with one of our players. How bizarre!
To be fair, I only made one of my rare visits as I was expecting this to be another one of KIO's Budgie History threads!
So much better than Kevin Davies and he got a call. Holt would certainly add something different and would absolutely run his socks off and give 200%. Lion heart!! Ryan Bennett looks like a possible future England defender to me too...
Howson has been very impressive last two home games. Got his goal today too, came close a couple of times.
As I said on the match thread, Holt deserves a chance, no matter how old he is. He scores goals at every level, so why not international level? 13 goals in 19 starts says it all.
Anyone watching sky sports news? Le tiss doesn't reckon he has the quality or attributes for a call up. He said they are many with better attributes but, they haven't really scored any goals... So what's more important goals or skills? We have quality wide players in the England squad, but nobody that can really head in the crosses....or hold up the ball. Holty offers both, I personally think its about having something different. I honestly thought it would be Carroll but he's looked pants since he moved to Liverpool so it leaves a gap for me. I think if Italian job had stayed, he would of got a shot (ala Davies and Heskey). Pearce (or whoever leads us to euros) will not have the balls to do something deemed controversial so I think Capello leaving has ultimately cost holt a place, just my opinion.
This is a quote from the BBC website's live coverage following Grant Holt's equaliser: 'Someone get this man a plane ticket to Poland in the summer. He scores goals' Says it all really. Clearly it's not just us who thinks he's good enough. If he ends the season as the highest scoring English born player in the EPL (behind Wayne Rooney) it would be extremely harsh if he wasn't selected.
Good to see girly Hampy getting bitchy on this subject. We always know how to press his buttons and dance to our tune.
