Yes agree with you, especially for two friendlies which break the basic rules of football, although hoppersblue has said these dates were always going to be set aside for World cup matches anyway, find that hard to believe

There is no top flight league in Europe or most of the world this weekend due to it being the final round if qualification matches for the World Cup.....OK!

The draw for the groups is only 3 weeks away.!

I just hate these weekends... Bloody international friendlies! <grr>

We just go andget a great win away from home and now the momentum has been lost because we have to wait 2 weeks because of some poncy friendly matches that have no meaning or importance at all. <doh>

It is bloody boring given, but i would rather it was like this than we play somebody who are at full strength and we have crucial players missing.

    Poor Hoppers <laugh>

I know it's not been made clear, but without these friendlies we would be having a break anyway because it's a designated international weekend, and had we not won our group would be playing play off matches ourselves <laugh><laugh>

TBH I would rather watch a competitive match then a dull as dishwater friendly with endless stop start substitutions! <doh>

What competitive match would this be? We qualified for the World Cup. Would you rather England didn't play at all and we just had the play off games to watch?

    I will try once more...

Mr JWM, the thing is it's international play off weekend and teams from the top two divisions have players from other nations so we wouldn't have had league football whether England played or not.

Would be great to see them back amongst it, will never forget that Steve Whitton strike at PR. But I'd still rather see Marriott bag a hat-trick against them than Cambridge get the points.

To be fair this break is not bothering me.I do follow England so it's nice not to have the play off stress this week.

On top of that we went into the break with 3 points in the bag .If we hadn't nicked it at the end I'm sure we would all be feeling a little downbeat right now.

The only downer is that I forgot we are playing the krauts on Tuesday.Guess who's travelling from Germany to England on Monday night.

If I don't post again you must assume that something happened in the bar of the Stena Brittanica, and I ended up in the North Sea.

Are some people deliberatly trying to wind me up on this thread..????

On the title of this thread, in what universe is a game against the Germans friendly or other not a "proper game of football"

    how soon we forget;
1966 - they think its all over, it is now
    2001 - Germany 1 v 5 England
1944 - Escape to victory (ok so only about half the players were English, but you get my drift)

Hoppers I'm not trying to wind you up mate. <ok>

I know that you are really passionate about the national team and fair play to you but it just doesn't do anything for me nowadays! Been let down too many times to really care!
