http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2013/07/06/4097855/- Apparently not only did he not know who Paulinho was(to be fair, none of us did 6 weeks ago) but he didn't even recognise VDV when he arrived He's going to be sorely missed if he leaves
I would keep Benny, he is still one of the best LB`s in the PL when fully fit even if he does have the odd moment. Last year his injury ruined his form but hopefully the new season will see the usual Benny back, I think BAE and Rose competing for the LB position would be good, likewise at RB with Walker and Naughton/Smith. Of course if an offer too good to turn down came in, then at Benny`s age we may well accept it.
I really hope he stays...has been a real part of the local community in Tottenham supporting the area after the riots; he does lots of charity work in Cameroon and is so funny... Dontch wish yer left back was BAE? Dontcha?
"I hope this season we will start the season from the first minute because last year we had a poor start and when you see the results at the end of the season, we missed out by one point." ..... hint hint Daniel... don't leave the business till the end of the window! See? he may say he doesn't have any interest... but Benny knows exactly what he's doing!
Yeah, certainly one of my favorite players. When I went to see the Liverpool pre-season game in Baltimore last year in a ninety five degree humid afternoon, he was the highlight. It seems he'd decided to see how many different ways he could take the ball from any Liverpool player who came his way, and came up with about five different ways. Only a very talented player could have done that.
Benny was on form the other day on Twitter. Check this link out: http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/s...al-fan-on-twitter-with-pic-of-cesc-rvp-nasri/ Good one from Benny there, especially if you recognise the writing on the photos too. They're lyrics from a current famous Hip Hop song by Drake "Started from the bottom".
I dislike all the speculation that goes on in the windows and try to avoid it as much as possible. The Benny speculation started in mid season just because he did not play every game. He's a very good player who has more to do with us winning games than losing them, he is never boring. We should only be losing such players if we have two better ones.
Yep totally agree Spurf. I've always been a big fan on Benny and LB isn't a position we need strengthening for next season unless someone good is available very cheap to use as competition. I'll actually be disappointed if we pay decent money on a new LB instead of using it on more important aspects (STRIKER!!!).
I say sell him. Yeah he has good games but if as a team we aspire to grow then every position needs tweaking to move up a notch. Maybe nobody is available to replace him but the errors he does make are amateurish and have no place in a team where the difference between CL football and us is 1point.
That's the thing, while I appreciate Benny does have a mistake or two in him, I don't see better alternatives out there that'd be available for a decent price or be interested in joining. Baines is too expensive, Coentrao probably wouldn't be interested, Kolarov could be a decent shout if City were to sell but someone made a good point the other day that he's likely to be on huge wages. Rose isn't good enough yet so I wouldn't want him starting over Benny... Left back's a tough position to fill in my opinion.
I agree,i've away's said he is the weak link in defence. His error's are something you cannot afford in the P/L,let alone the C/L if we get back there, yes it may be a difficult position to fill, but not impossible
I think people are forgetting he was left back in the meanest Spurs back 4 for decades. To replace him with somebody of equal ability as SoS says would be prohibitively expensive. He needs a run in the first team and I think we will see him back to his best. Besides that he seems to be the only footballer in the Prem with his feet on the ground.
Would anyone mind coming up with a list of all these 'errors' and 'mistakes' Benny is meant to have made, include how many actually led to conceded goals - and then compare that to any other players mistakes. I think you will find that there is some massive over-stating of the negatives - as Chirpy states, he has been our most consistent LB in eons in the best overall Spurs defence since the early 80's. We just don't need to invest valuable funds in a replacement LB at the moment!
He did look all over the place at times, to be fair. Basel at home was one of the worst. I'm an idealist though and would hate to see someone with such a great relationship with the fans and love for the club be pushed out of the door. Last season I felt Dawson should be moved on if AVB didn't rate him as I'd rather see him leave on a high than spend a year in the reserves and on the bench before becoming resigned to leaving at the end of the season. Shows what I know!(And AVB for that matter). I'm not so sure he will stay but I hope he does and I hope we don't sign a replacement, leaving him getting less football than he deserves.
All defenders make 'mistakes' it's the nature ot the game. Forwards spend their lives trying to push defenders into errors, without them there would be precious few goals. Errors occur all over the pitch, in midfield they are far less obvious (or important) than errors made by strikers or defenders. The modern game requires defenders to act as wingmen as well, this increases the potential for being out of position. I just don't see Benny any more error prone than Walker or Dawson. I do see a player with good tackling skills and ball control who always has an eye for turning defence into attack. I have seen Baines, who everyone lauds, make many mistakes when playing for England so much so that I wondered what all the fuss was about.
His mistakes always get highlighted more than others it seems. Christ you could have a field day on walkers defensive mistake last season. Yes Benny had a poor season last season by his high standards but him being the weak link of our defence is complete bollocks. Lets see how he plays next season hopefully injury free before we look to let him go. As his been mentioned who else better could we get in to replace? Plus getting a striker is a million times more important to our team than replacing Benny.
At this point in time. Replacing Benny Ekotto would be pure folly. I have seen some poor left backs in my time and I have to say Benny is NOT one of them.
much as i like Benny,he is one of the worst i have seen at Spurs, and i've watched them since Baker and Henry were the full backs.Having said that, signing a striker is more important than a left back
Are you actually serious about that Tots?????? Personally find it difficult to think of too many better Spurs left backs since Cyril Knowles - but I guess it depends on what you expect from a LB.........
