And I have to go to Millwall's neck of the woods. Dank and dreary and full of smiling cockneys. Ach, never mind. We never really got going last night and were very lucky to get in front. How we stayed in front for so long was also down mainly to bad finishing on the part of Blackpool. In reality we were hammered just like last season. But the chat is all about who we played in the team and why. The defence, having looked solid against Wolves, was weakened from the start by moving Peltier to left back and bringing in Lees. Why make such changes and mess up the anchor role when he just needed to bring in one player to replace Green in midfield? I guess it was just the type of 'clever' tinkering we shall have to get used to. After the first 2 games I would say we are exactly where we should expect to be given our players and owner. Comfortably mid table. Interestingly it may be best for us in the long term as the fans frustration will lead to lower crowds and hopefully hasten the demise of one Kenneth Bates. MOT
Morning Elmo. I think you're probably correct re bates departure. He obviously can't see we are going nowhere under his stewardship so the point will need to be driven home with further reduced crowds and protests. Sadly, it may take a while but the cancer must be removed if we are ever to grow again
I woulda brought in Lees into the game and to pretend I wouldn't have would be just lying, from my understanding he wasn't quite fully fit for wolves and that was the reasoning behind him not starting that game. I however wouldn't have moved Peltier to LB. That was an odd decision and when the team was placed up I was kinda worried that we were playing 5 at the back because I wasn't sure what was going on. In hindsight I might have kept the same team just replacing Green but I would still like us to drop Byram, I confess to not knowing anything about perfomances against Blackpool but against Wolves he looked a little unstable
I can accept replacing Green with White but not Peltier at LB when we have Drury, other decisions beggar belief, taking off McCormack (why not Varney or even Norris) and why bring on Pugh?? Radio commentary at half time, Gray turned to the other guy and said can you remember Norris touching the ball?!! I know many believed we would be harder to beat this season, I no longer accept that, we are lucky the scoreline wasn't 4 or 5 to Blackpool. Commentators said several times that they were cutting through us with ease. Pre-season and Preston did the same, completely outplayed us in midfield passing the ball right through us.
I can't disagree with anyone, but the interesting point made by Elmo & Eire is the fans reaction going forward. If we start to look like another version of Grayson's pants, the fans will only blame Bates. Warnock will carry on telling the media that his squad's too weak because he hasn't the money. Bates will see gates falling and revenue not coming in. The protests will kick off again and we'll all be morons again. No takeover and will Harvey still be in a job? Harvey has recently seemed to distance himself from Bates, obviously because he thought the T/O was happening. He flew to Monaco to get the deal back on track and has met with LUST and been photographed with them. He told a judge in court that Bates was an embarrasment and he made Bates out to be a liar in another media outlet, as well as to the commons select committee. I have a feeling that Harvey will be gone unless the deal happens. Lets face facts; if the deal collapses there will only be one person to blame. Bates will blame the fans as usual though
At the same time Doc, this is whats annoying me about Warnock. Is if he fails, he just blames bates, not himself. I know its not a fantastic squad but it is a squad he built and he chose them players.
Josh you're right mate, but the blame game has been the only thing constant at ER for a few years. fans blamed Grayson, fans blame bates, some fans blame Warnock now, Grayson blamed some players, Bates blamed Grayson, Grayson blamed Harvey, Bates blamed fans, Bates blamed media ........ The sad thing was that grayson only blamed bates after he lost his job.
