but we are just not good enough when it comes to the games that really matter because we could not pass our way through a wet Sentinel to create a goal from open play Apart from some atrocious passing at times we knocked it around at the back quite well.

We all say on here that it is a lack of a creative midfield which is true to a certain extent but with no dispespect and I know that we managed to "overpower" them but look at the football that Swansea played yesterday with a team costing far less than ours

It may be that I am just gutted at the moment but that is a game we could have won if we were able to play other than hoof and hope I guess that we have to settle for survival as long as Pulis is there Not too much wrong with tactics and selection today because even when Pennant came on not much difference but either Pulis does not regonise what he needs to solve the problem or the players that we need will not come because of his vindictive reputation and favouritism

    Rant over for now

We did battle today and in the first half we matched Liverpool and deserved to go in at 1-1. The only chance they had in the first half was when we didn't close down Suarez but he took his goal well. We did well to equalise quickly and it's a pity Jonny didn't take that chance when put through by Deano. Overall we did well in the first half and even passed the ball around reasonably well. I think we tired in the 2nd half and hence were unable to press forward thus leaving Crouch and Walters isolated. Liverpool had more possession but I don't think they created much. I feel we would have earned a replay but of course Downing put paid to that.

Team selection was OK today and the lads worked hard. But I agree that we need to be looking to play more openly and not rely so much on set=pieces. It was interesting that when Rory was on we hardly managed any throw-ins

Pretty much agree with most of your comments S I S
And, for all my saying get Pennant into the team, he contributed hardly anything. Which makes me wonder if he(Pennant) has finally said to himself SOD THIS? Ive had enough of sitting on the bench.

Team selection was OK ish.. but I thought Wilko, Whelan, and Shotton FAR too often wasted good positions by yeah... giving the ball away. A problem which can only be solved by a better midfield.. old ground I know but it shines like a beacon and Pulis must see it, sooner or later?

My only gripe was when Ether's got hacked down and I mean hacked down by their fullback? **** ME had that been Wilko fans of Liverpool would have said RED card IMO it was but we didn't deserve to win the game. WHY no one told Ether's to attack the defender after being booked I know not.

Then, Carroll pulled, pushed shoved Huth into the hoardings and the ref does didley squat.. Still I NEVER expected us to win today so we'll move onwards and I hope upwards.

Footnote.. Tony Pulis IF you say/think Shotton is as good as Pennant. Who are you kidding. As for Suarez great goal but he's the biggest whinger I've seen.

Mon's Mush GOOD LUCK in your'e re-play <ok> And OUR fans today we're fantastic too! Despite the stupid comments on the Liverpool board to the contrary.

I can't believe you're complaining about the referee. Huth could've easily walked for the stamp on Suarez, so I can't see how you have the right to moan about other tackles which were miles less serious. Plus on the Carroll/Huth incident? Carroll got shoved and wrestled to the ground off Shawcross and Huth all day, then he returns the favour in kind and you're calling for action to be taken against him? Ridiculous.

If the Kelly tackle was red? Then Stoke would be regularly finishing games with 10 men or less.

And I see you are complaining that you aren't technically good enough to capitalise on being in dangerous positions in the attacking third? But that's the price you pay for having grafters in your team instead of talented footballers and its the reason why you usually concede so little against the bigger teams. You sacrifice your central midfielders and one of your wingers for grafters who don't add THAT much going forward, its always been Tony Pulis' way, and it will always be the way Stoke play until he leaves.

I reckon Tony Pulis has taken you as high as you will ever be in the table under him, his tactics won't take you any further than the upper side of the bottom half and the occasional cup run.

Good luck for the rest of the season mind.

Unlike the majority of fans you are a ******* idiot jog off!

    Re Luccas

Erm that foul by Kelly was terrible as for the stamp on Suarez WHAT stamp Huth caught Surarez on the shin and as usual, Suarez made the most of it. Even the comm's said as much. Quote, Huth hardly made contact. <doh> NO complaints witht he result just that tackle by Kelly. Had that been a Stoke player you would be on here shouting the odds re dirty etc. NO way was that a dirty game, Carroll/Suarez gave as good as they got. Just like Shawcross and Huth who was almost thrown into the KOP by Andy Carroll.

Correct about Pulis and his tactic's they are **** and UNTIL we improve our midfield we are going nowhere.. as I said before.

I hope you now win the Cup but Chelsea and Spurs are looking more solid/consistant right now. Are Liverpool good enough? On today's showing I doubt it but that's my own oppinion. <ok>

The same Spurs that has lost 3 times in a row?

We stand as good a chance as anyone in the competition at the moment + We've already beaten twice at SB twice this season.

Anyway popped on to here to say well done on a good performance, you made us work hard for our victory but you sacrificed a lot of attacking intent just to defend and relied on set pieces for a result. Was always going to be a tight game and I'm glad we nicked it.

    That Magic

Fair enough comments thanks for a decent response <ok>
Again I thought Pulis didn't do the right thing subs wise but you more than deserved to win the game.
As for your chance's semi's it's anyone's to win or lose now!

I just think Chelsea have come out of that bad patch and on yesterday's showing, I think they are fav's too win the cup.

We did really well first half but I would have taken Shotton off he wasted too many great chances to put the ball into your box,

As for Spurs? Having a great season and I would glady take a pt now from Wednesday's game.

Good luck in the Semi final anyhow.

What do you mean he made the most of it? He had to go off after the tackle because he had an injury! Not sure I've seen a player milking a challenge to the extent he hobbles of the pitch and has to be subbed!

No way was that Kelly tackle a red card, I can't even believe you are claiming it is anywhere near a red. Yellow was deserved, but a red would've been even more ridiculous than the Rodwell or Huth red cards in recent times.

And tbh I think Spurs have lost a lot of momentum in recent times and Chelsea looked decent against Napoli (who are notoriously poor at defending) and Leicester (who are a championship team), but will they do better against a more defensively solid team like Liverpool? I guess we'll see on Wednesday when they face Man City who Liverpool are closer to in terms of stinginess in defence and conceding goals. We've also beaten Chelsea in the past 4 games, 3 of which were at Stamford Bridge. Food for thought there.

That Huth card wasn't rediclulous? you mean v Sunderland I assume? Cos it was a red card.. in those conditions it was STUPID at best to slide in like that, I said so at the time.
As for Kellys tackle, that's my oppinion so I don't see what your problem is? It was miles late, he NEVER got close to Etherington. He didn't get anywhere near close to touching the ball. My only regret is that Etherington did not attack him thereafter having been booked.

Rodwell's was a totally ridiculous red card IMO. As for Carroll pulling Huth you missed it then? You take it you give it back simple.. J Terry is the worst player i've seen for holding etc.. that doesn't make him a bad player.. they all do it every week.. it's common place and always has been.. re holding, shirtpulling..

As for the Semi's I still fancy Chelsea or Spurs to win the Cup that again, is MY OWN oppinion not yours. I HOPE Liverpool win it but you were not that good yesterday or did we actually play better than some suggest?

Either way, you won we lost.. I'm not getting into a slanging match... GOOD Luck for the semi and the rest of the season.

  13. I don't want to get into a slanging match but IMO Kelly's tackle was very poor. It was not only late but also very high!
TP was apparently the team to get the ball wide so Matty could have another go at Kelly.

As for an alledged stamp by Huth. Huth is not capable of being subtle. If Huth meant that I would be absolutely amazed. Alll footballers know that there are so many cameras around and if it is seen as deliberate he would be suspended subsequently.

Just in case you react Lucaas, this is how I saw it.

    Cheers
