I don't know which angle is the most fanciful... AC going to Mackems... or us forking out £18m for an injury prone ex player........ silly season clearly.... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-newcastle-going-head-head-7117100 Slaven Bilic has been told he must offload players before making any new signings and the Hammers hope to make a profit on the player they signed for £15m in 2013 please log in to view this image West Ham are willing to offload Andy Carroll in the newly opened transfer window. England striker Carroll has regained fitness and form over the festive period, scoring in his last two games. But the Hammers are open to selling their £15million record signing – for £18m – with North East pair Newcastle and Sunderland ready to snap the 26-year-old up. The East Londoners need to sell before they can buy this month. And letting £90,000-a-week Carroll go would reduce their wage bill by a significant amount and give them room for manoeuvre in the transfer market. Hammers’ co-chairman David Sullivan insisted last month that Carroll would reject a move to Sunderland and that the frontman could only be vulnerable to an approach from hometown club Newcastle. Big Sam, however, is said to be undeterred and is keen to be reunited with Carroll at the Stadium of Light. The striker has overcome his luckless spell of injuries and proved his wellbeing yet again at the weekend with the clincher against Liverpool. Sunderland sit second from bottom, four points from safety, after their 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend. Jermain Defoe’s brace means he has scored six league goals so far this season. But Allardyce is willing to offload players this month after giving them all the chance to impress since his arrival October. Saturday’s goal against Liverpool was the second time in as many weeks that Carroll has hit the decisive goal after his header against Southampton last week.
Seriously? Mirrors melt for me Andy Carroll is just another big lump like the increasingly dull Mitrovic
I like him he's a hell of a player. 2 things concern me 1. Will he be fit enough to help us 2. Will he just end up on the lash all the time Would his bird even want to move up here? Would we pay the 10m-15m required (18m ) I just don't see this happening at all. If he was to stay fit I have no doubt he'd score the goals to secure are league status. Great age 26, British, local, it all fits. Him and arma would be a terrific combo. Just too many ifs for me
Personally think it's the best move. He's a leader, he's local, he gets it, he also offers a change to our policy and an indication that some lessons have been learned. I think from the comments of Slaven that they have 'fixed' him; I reckon around £10m is enough and I'd rather him than Austin. I have a feeling this will happen, with Cisse more or less done now, and who better for Mitro to learn from. Almost a critical deal, this one, for all reasons mentioned. We shall see....
I think we could do with Carroll, on his day he can give any defense a problem, but £18m is a bit steep for someone who will struggle to get 25-30 games a season. I know its not the Ashley way but maybe £10mil up front with £5-8mil in add on's in relation to games played, goals scored and possibly international appearances? Fully agree though he would be a major asset in terms of mentality in the dressing room and could really help Mitro develop as Rolando said.
I'd be all for this if, like Rolando said, the price was nearer to £10 million. Could be a great move for both parties - IF he can stay it!
At least AC knows where the goal is. Wouldn't mind for 10-12 mio Says Mackems are in for him too...would he put on a mackems shirt? Probably.
This regurgitation of this story every window is almost as tedious as dealing with BT to get them to switch the fibre on at your new house.
Lee Charnley: "Hello? Is that David Gold?" DG: "<sigh> hello again, Lee. No, you can't have Andy Carroll for free." LC: "Oh, gosh darn it."....dials new number...."Hello? Is that the Daily Mirror?" DM: "<sigh> hello again, Lee. Yes, we'll run the Carroll to Newcastle story again and, yes, we'll make out he's available but only for a price everyone thinks will be too high. £18m sound ok? Talk to you again July 1st."
AC had the potential to be a great player. Partly due to moves but mainly due to injuries he has not progressed as he should have. Not for me but that is on the basis we do get a "goalscorer" in this window otherwise beggars can't be choosers.
