Newcastle confirm Cabella deal Last Updated: 23:31 13/07/14 Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of attacking midfielder Remy Cabella from Montpellier on a six-year contract. The 24-year-old, who has been in the Magpies' sights since they tried to sign him as a replacement for Yohan Cabaye in January, becomes Alan Pardew's fourth summer acquisition after Siem de Jong, Jack Colback and Ayoze Perez. The France international jetted into Tyneside from his post-World Cup finals holiday in Corsica on Sunday, 48 hours after Montpellier president Louis Nicollin had revealed that a deal was all but done. Newcastle were cautious as they worked to thrash out the remaining details, but their optimism was rewarded when they finally got their man. Cabella said: "It is great to finally be a Newcastle player. "This is a move that I really wanted to make as I have heard nothing but good things about Newcastle United from everyone I spoke to. "I wanted to join a great English club and that is why I have arrived here. I'm looking forward to pulling on the shirt and playing in this magnificent stadium, and I will give this club my maximum." Newcastle manager Pardew said: "Remy is a player who has been on our radar for a while and we are delighted to bring him to the club. "He is a player who I am sure will excite our fans. He has flair, hard work and commitment, and is going to bring a talent, energy and quality to St James' Park that our supporters will enjoy. "Remy has great ideas when the ball comes to him, and along with Siem de Jong is going to improve an area where we definitely needed some help."
I'll take your word but dont agree mind, ****s sake, huge outlay that marra, all things considered, who has a 6 year plan at nufc when its all going so well
Right footed Ben Arfa without the attitude like. I'd have loved him here, loves running with the ball. He'll be class.
Very good signing. I honestly can't understand why this calibre of players keep signing for them... It's as if they haven't read the news over the past few years. Realistically they are doing very well in the market, I'm jealous. Fair play NUFC.
There business is taking the piss out of ours. As standard, they are signing lads that will sell for 4-5 times their fee if they succeed, we are once again in the sale bucket. Meh. Sure we'll make a move soon.
Irons in fires fella, it's like buying a house and getting caught in the chain. Things will start moving along we're just waiting on others first.
G Bailey reckons they'll be announcing Riviere and Jaanmat this week. I had a feeling we could have finished above them this year. That feeling is gone.
We will see. He's done well and he's done poorly. We've never had this much quality in the side though. Competition for places could really help pards cause. Either way i was just reading this thread wondering what your thoughts on altidore are? Surely he'll be better this next season.
To be fair 5/6 year contracts are becoming the norm when signing a player 26 years old or under. Lallana, Shaw, De Jong, Cabella, Sanchez. It's pretty much done to make sure that firstly you don't have to negotiate a new (higher) contract with the player if he has a good first season and also puts you in a position of strength should another club wish to buy them.
This guy is an outstanding player, he's like watching a highlight reel constantly, quick feet and draws in fouls all the time. I reckon he'll be sold by Newcastle for upwards of £30m in a couple of years time, if he avoids both injury and Pardew playing him in nets. Another good thing about him from a Newcastle point of view, is that he's exactly the type of player who will work perfectly with Cisse, don't be surprised if he finds his feet again.
