“Newcastle is a beautiful club. I’m open to anything. We’ll see what happens, but there’s nothing wrong with listening to Ajax and what interested clubs have to say.

“I am still here [at Ajax] and will do my best.

“I will consider all options. Does it matter to me that Newcastle are not in the Champions League? No.”


“I haven’t spoken to Frank de Boer, but heard that he did not want me to leave. Maybe he will change his mind when Ajax hear what Newcastle has to offer.

“After I heard about the interest from Newcastle, I gave it some thought. It tells me that I am doing well. The choice is up to me.

“I will see how things go.”

Would be a good move, as it will be that one bit of extra cover in midfield we will probably need next year.

 

Why are all of our intended dealings so public now? I'm sure the likes of Tiote, Cabaye + Marveaux were fairly well under the radar and were more of a surpise.

 

I'm very much afraid this is going to be another long term affair with in the end a club from elsewhere in Europe with more cash.
Estimate transferfee: 10 million pounds, at least.

2 years left on his contract. 2 championship titles, 1 league cup. Played 2 seasons in the CL and Ajax qualified for the group stage for this season. NUFC can only offer EL. He may not say it out loud, but it will make a difference in the end. It'll go just like Luuk de Jong i'm afraid.

 

That's my worry. May become a theme due to the type of player we are now targetting.

 

I don't think he will go for 10 mil. He isn't a house hold name over here.

 

I was thinking this. It used to be below the radar now every man and his dog knows about it.

 

Anita would be brilliant. Playing at the back with Tiote, but liscence to go forward with a counter attack. Cover for fullback.

He's very quick, decent passer, not a bad finisher for a CDM/Fullback.

He could be an awesome impact play if we're really going for it.

Really hope we sign him.

 

Agree with this but also starting to wonder if we are going to get the old "well we tried but are not going to pay over the odds" "keeping our tinder dry for january" lines thrown at us as we sign next to no-one.

 

Try to keep the faith and that we'll do whatever we can.

 

They've always brought in good players since Carr arrived so why should this window be any different.

 

Well, there's an obvious leak at the NUFC management department. I'd say flush him out cold-war period style. Use some Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy techniques

 

I think they've tried to keep our business under the radar as much as possible, but it's been leaked once the first bid has gone in. I don't remember being linked with Anita, or strongly with De Jong till we actually bidded. Douglas has been linked a while, mainly due to spending all last season we wanted a CB. Debuchy is the main exception, Pards basically came out and told us we wanted him, maybe due to the Cabaye factor it means we're confident of getting him?

It' more difficult to keep dealings quiet, the better you do. Newcastle finished 5th last year so there is now more media interest in how we do. Notice how Man City get linked with a lot more players now than 5 years ago.

 

Every man and his dog thought they knew who we were after when we signed Cabaye, Tiote and Marveaux. They were wrong then.

They think they know who we're after now. Maybe, Maybe not

 

Nothing in there other than the usual lip service players give when linked with a club - i'm sure he'll look to join a club playing in the Champions League, like any player would, but will not 'burn his bridges' with Newcastle United should he be unable to get one of those clubs.
