SUNDERLANDââ¬â¢S forgotten man Marcos Angeleri has returned to his native Argentina to see a knee specialist in the hope of reviving his career. The 28-year-old full-back has been one of the major disappointments of the season for the Black Cats but hopes that work on a long-term injury will allow him to return next season much more like the player Steve Bruce believed he had originally signed last summer. The international defender has failed to make any impact in England and has only featured in three games since his ã2m move from Estudiantes last summer ââ¬â and Sunderland have been considering offloading him. But Bruce has not given up hope of seeing the best of either Angeleri or fellow South American Cristian Riveros next season, the manager already accepting that the cruciate ligament injury Angeleri suffered in the season before he moved to England, has continued to hold him back. The Argentina international, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury in June, 2009, aggravated the knee problem during the Black Catsââ¬â¢ pre-season game against Benfica in Portugal last summer and the injury has hampered the 28-year-old ever since. Bruce admitted: ââ¬ÅAngeleri has not been fit since the Benfica game in pre-season, which is a shame. ââ¬ÅHe has gone back to Argentina to see the specialist about his knee and hopefully he can get it successfully resolved. ââ¬ÅHis surgeon is involved with the Argentinian national team, so we decided it would be better for him to go and speak to him in his native language and get the best possible environment for what we hope will be a successful solution. ââ¬ÅHe has a problem with his knee which I donââ¬â¢t think he has been right since the start of the season, against Benfica. That was the start of the situation we find ourselves in. ââ¬ÅHe has never really got up to scratch with it, never got up to pace with it and, in my opinion, he is injured. ââ¬ÅAs far as Marcos and Cristian go, we just wait and see what happens, but Iââ¬â¢ve said all along that South Americans can take time to adjust to the English game and both could come back next season and do a good job for us.ââ¬Â Nicked from todays Sunderland Echo, hope all goes well for the lad, when he came to Sunderland, was hoping for great things, and may yet do so,,,,,,,fingers crossed.
Maybe it's his very large and almost constant erection impacting on his knee scratching.Bruce is right the lad needs another year with us before he is up to scratch.
Didnt his contract get cancelled by mutual consent?? He is no longer a Sunderland player, but a free agent...
I've criticised Bruce a lot for not giving this lad sufficient chance. If this is true, I take it all back. Good luck to him with the knee, and let's see what he's got to offer when fit.
