Just wondering whether you think in the long run Andy Robertson should stay as a Full Back / Wing Back or change his position to being an attacking midfielder.

He definitely as the potential to make it as an attacking midfielder. Whilst he is good at defending I think he is much better suited to the attacking side of the game. He has the potential if he wants to and continues to develop at the rate he is to go on and play for any of the big teams in the world and go on for big money.

It reminds me of the situation when Gareth Bale changed from being a defender to being an attacking midfielder. I AM NOT comparing him to Bale but just using Bale as a high profile example of this happening in the past.

I wondered how long it would be before someone ridiculously prematurely compared him to Bale.

    Ridiculous.

His ears are nowhere near as stickyouty as Bales

from that comment you must have somehow considered it yourself OR the comparison wouldnt have even materialised inside ur mind ;)

I reckon in a better team he could make the switch and be effective in a similar way to Bale , he needs to lose his defensive responsibilities first though

Well actually I saw another City fan post it on one of the newspaper sites, can't remember where though.

Are you always deliberately obtuse and play devils advocate?

I aren't comparing them as players and just comparing the situation of Andy Robertson looking so good that he could be better suited in a different role in the future. It could have been any player who started their career in a different position and Bale is one of the more high profile ones.

Hull Daily Mail ran a story on this the other day so I am hardly the first either.

I do agree that his natural ability to get forward is one of his benefits, but he looks better when he is coming from deeper rather when he recieves the ball under pressure. He also hasn't scored a goal yet, so i don't think comparisons to Bale are fair on the kid.

From what i have seen i think he suits a wing back in a 3-5-2 or possible a wide midfielder but not a Bale style winger.

This boy is a talented, inexperienced young lad, learning his trade.

He's done a few good things in the last month and a half.

    He's made a few mistakes.

Leave him be. Let him gain experience.

    He isn't the next anybody.

He may be outstanding. He may fade.

I wish the lad all the fortune in the world. I really do.

But he doesn't need extra pressure at this stage.

I have made the same argument CMP from almost the first time I saw him on video. His future is clearly as an attacking midfielder like Bale and he will definitely go on to play for some of the top teams in the world like Bale has done in my opinion. Obviously Quill has not been reading the posts on here very carefully as several others besides the two of us have been comparing him to Bale for some time and it is a pretty obvious comparison to make given their style of play. The sky is the limit for Robertson and we are VERY lucky to have him. Bruce has shown enormous confidence in him and I hope we are able to hang on to him for 2-3 years at least.
