Wins his third tournament in a row and moves up to number three in the world. Congrats to him. Has he now finally found that level of consistency and physicality that could see him win a Major?
He always seems to find form around this time of the year, he's always played well in the Asian swing. People will point to the fact both Djokovic and Federer weren't playing but neither of them have played since the US Open and I think that could work against them now that Murray has got confidence and is the form player in world tennis. Still 2 big titles to play for this year, the Paris Masters and then the Tour Finals in London and I don't see why Murray can't keep this run of wins going
How many titles has he won now and how does that compare with other British tennis players of the past 20 years? Why do we produce so few good tennis players? And what's the name of the African Grey?
1. I think he has won 3 since the US open, he is the most successful Btitish tennis player since Fred Perry? If not him then someone else from his era. 2. Tennis isn't promoted enough in schools - do you know a school that teaches tennis in PE/games? I don't know of any here. Also tennis still has that "snob" label attatched to it in this country. Do you remember looking at Tim Henman's parents at wimbledon? Very middle class! Tennis courts nearest to me here in Plymouth are in a very upmarket area. Snobbery ruins everything in this country. Do you know why the dutchess of Kent stopped going to Wimbledon? I do, snobbery again! 3. My african grey's name is Beau. 4. You are much more human on the tennis forum than on the mods forum
He's won 5 titles this year and 21 in his career. If you compare that with the most recent 'top' British tennis players Henman and Rusedski then he's outdone both of them. Henman won 11 careers titles and Rusedski won 15
Queen's Club Queen's, Cincinnati Masters 1000, Bangkok, Tokyo, Shanghai Masters 1000 is what hes won this year
Thanks for that 1882, yes I remember him winning all those, the 3 far eastern ones very recently and the Cincinatti masters which he seems to do well at and yes queens of course You know your tennis.
I've always been a fan of tennis and follow it all through the year rather than just the 4 grand slams when interest usually peeks in this country, particularly in Mr Murray
I agree 1882 but tv coverage has a role to play in that, it's like I said in an earlier post, it has hardly had a mention on tv or radio news here that one of our own has won a title.
In a word, no. His mentality is simply always going to let him down, he could be two sets and a break up in the final and short of double faults from the opposition I'd still fancy him to fall apart. May well take many more Masters titles, but I think a grand slam with continue to evade him.
That's always been my worry but the fact is he's getting that winning habit and that must give his confidence and belief a huge boost. It's been his concentration over five sets that lets him down, especially against Nadal.
I think he will always fall short when it comes to the Slams, Djokovic and Nadal will be in front of him, but I suppose Federer has peaked now so thats one less giant to go through for him.
