According to Wiki, Andy Marshall played 390 games as a goalkeeper between 1994 and 2009, though did not retire from playing until 2014. Between 2014 and 2016 Marshall was Goalkeeping Coach at Aston Villa; In the 2014-15 season Villa finished 17th, avoiding relegation by 2 points. They conceded 57 goals (3rd most behind Newcastle United and QPR). Brad Guzan was their first choice keeper. In the 2015-16 season Villa were relegated, bottom of the table. They conceded 76 goals (the most in the league). Guzan was keeper for 28 games, Mark Bunn was in goal for the other 10. ~~~~~~~~~~ I cannot trace what Andy Marshall has been doing between 2016 (after he left the job as Goalkeeping Coach at Aston Villa) and when he signed as Goalkeeping Coach for Charlton. If any other member knows please enlighten me? I would not dispute that Andy Marshall was a good goalkeeper, and of course the poor seasons Aston Villa suffered while AM was their Goalkeeping Coach are not just down to goalkeeping errors - the whole team had been performing poorly for years. But if Marshall has coached Goalkeeping at a Club with a better record than Aston Villa from 2014 to 2016 I cannot find information about it. I hope he does well, however the stats I am aware of suggest his experience on the coaching side is limited, and his work to date has not been reflected by much success.
Now we need an experienced keeper - preferably Ben Amos although that looks more unlikely by the day. On a wider level, the appointment of Marshall & the signing of the striker from Wimbledon suggests to me that Duchatelet will still be here next season. Does anyone really see the Belgian investing this dough if he was about to leave ? And the “Aussies” (cough) and their potential new manager would surely be having some sort of input into such signings ie : not wanting them.
I just want to see the matter resolved. The uncertainty is undermining everything. But I still think the Consortium may get the take-over through, however perhaps not until well into the season - September or October even. I won't believe the Aussie take-over is dead until the Club announces it.
Ben Amos is in talks with Us and Ipswich - so he will probably go to Ipswich https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/b...ead-in-battle-to-loan-in-championship-player/
He was indeed - now a part-time scout for Everton - he was instrumental in them signing Lookman Lives in Sweden!
