He scored today! My question is do we get him back in January? Personally I don't see him being a permanent fixture for us as he clearly isn't rated, but I do feel he would be useful to mix things up at least until the end of the season where he could be sold. I don't see the point of him being on loan. He may as well play here and there for us. We have 0 options up front so I think perhaps we should. I'm not a huge fan but he's better than nobody - especially as technically he's still one of our players. What are everyone's thoughts?
He has been playing poorly in a team set up to suit his skill set, with his best mate Nolan who he was prolific with at Newcastle. If he can't do it at West Ham where they play to his strengths would he be able to play for us where we don't necessarily play that way? Where do we play him, the central striker? Push Suarez out wide even though he's in brilliant form as the central striker? I didn't want him to go, but seeing how he's performed sof ar, if we can get close to £20mil for him then take it and move on I say.
I suppose it all depends on if we get anyone in January. If we do then Carroll won't come back you would think?
It doesn't seem like he's part of BR's plans, does it. And the word is we are signing a frontman(or two?) in January. Best option for us is to take a financial hit and recycle what we get back into the aforementioned frontmen. West Ham,Newcastle? It ain't gonna happen for him,or us,at Anfield.
Genuine question...would you sell him for £12mil...I know that's a big loss but you can purchase huntelaar for that.
Was there a clause in the loan deal to West Ham which said if they stayed up, which I think they will,he would sign permanently? I seem to remember £17m being mentioned. The clause stuff could easily be a load of media tripe mind.
I'd happily take £10 mil for him. Still be plus £25 mil on the Torres deal which is the money we used to buy him. Think anyone would pay £25mil for Torres now? No, me neither. That's not even considering the savings on wages.
Such a painful signing! Why or why couldn't we have invested it elsewhere? Seems we got fixated on him.
I'm led to believe that WHU are obliged to purchase him for a pre-agreed fee of £17 million, rather than simply making us an offer at the end of the season. Although, the fact we can recall him in January seems odd if such a deal is in place. We never had that option with Aquilani, who left on two occasions under similar circumstances. I expect WHU will try to renegotiate that fee in May. Or simply pass up the option to purchase.
Say something about 'Unplayable' and Brendans win% if you take away the wins. Oh and 21 year old Lucas and patience. You know the drill.
He would be a brilliant Plan B for us however - we paid £35m and he's on about £70k plus a week in wages. It's far too expensive for a player who won't be getting regular game time. And as others have mentioned, he scored his first goal last night despite playing in a team that is suited to his strengths.
West Ham have paid part of his wages for a while and I expect that will mean a reduced fee for them if they buy him. If we can get some money for him and Downing and get rid of the JC wage then we will have done well in January.
