Andy Awford has turned down the chance to continue as Guy Whittingham's assistant and will return to his previous role as academy manager. The news will be somewhat surprising to some Pompey fans given how successful Guy and Andy were as a partnership but at least the academy will receive the attention it deserves with Awfs back at the helm. Given how the likes of Dan Butler and Jed Wallace have developed this season, it is clear to see the impact that Andy has had since he first took the role and hopefully his academy will continue to produce the young talent, if only to raise more cash for the club in the long term. With Awford stepping down, it's now up to Guy Whittingham to decide who he wants to be his assistant for next season. Will he choose someone who knows Portsmouth Football Club well or perhaps he will prefer an individual who knows League Two inside-out?
Fully agree with you Pieking He is the man who helped unearth and bring through most of the young players who have since made the first team squad at FP, so he must receive praise for that alone.
Has he not been offered his "football in the community" role that he held before being made redundant? It would be a shame to lose such a character from the football club. How about Alan Macca as Assistant?
Macca is a good shout, Mike. Currently a senior coach in the Academy, and hopefully fully recovered now following his cancer scare and removal of one kidney end of last year. He is very good technically.
I was unware of the health issues - but if fully recovered then I think him and Guy would make a great pairing. Obviously keeping Knight as GK coach is important. I'm personally happy that Awfs has gone back to the youth team - he obviously does great things.
I can only assume, because it's from you Ducky, that was tongue in cheek? Hell, we could swipe Cotterill from QPR too? Pulis will be out of a job in the summer?
Mike, the comment "What about Rix?" was a sad, pathetic attempt at humour by the from Poole, based on his previous "problems" with a young girl whilst he was coaching at Chelsea. He has mentioned this before in a previous thread on our site last year, and no doubt will mention it again in 2014, when he gets bored. You would think he would spend his time on the Saints page discussing their fight against relegation, rather than troubling himself coming on here
Mikey that's unbecoming of you, I expect stupid posts from the likes of old woopsy , but not you. There's a world of difference between being convicted and being exonerated. My post had nothing to do with his chick issue and all to do with his ability as a coach. Surely everybody deserve a second chance and it was hardly a jimmy savillie situation. He is a good coach, certainly better than some of the clowns you've employed.
This is one sad effort even for you. Rix was sentenced to 12 months of which he served six, for having sex with an under age girl. To call that a "chick issue" is pathetic beyond belief even by your low standards. I suggest you retract this statement with a full apology at your earliest convenience.
