Just got in from the game and thought I would share some thoughts on Surman.

I must admit, I never really rated him last season. Sure, he has bags of class, but is a little slow to be a proper wide player, and seemed to lack any determination in a tackle.

However, this year and certainly the last few games he has won me over, big style. Today he was fantastic. He had so much composure on the ball, a real determination to win and keep hold of possession, and scored a fantastic goal. How he played so little for Wolves, I don't know. He's definitley a Premier Quality player.

Lets hope he'll still be a Premier League player next year. (In the green and yellow of course!)

Well said, has kept Pilkington out of the team and has performed brilliantly.

It's amazing what competition for places does. Great goal against Wolves and looking forward to seeing todays on MOTD. The ball is in Pilkington's court to respond

My favourite midfielder, bar Hoolahan, always believed in his Premier League potential :)

Plus he is a goal-scorer (big advantage)!

Ive always rated the lad, as you say tad slow for a winger but he has been exceptional on the left of the diamond and the past 3 or 4 games he seems to be just getting better and better as each game goes on. Pilks has had a superb season aswell considering the step up but its quite hard to compare the 2 as they are very different in style in my eyes.

Yep. I though Pilks was poor today. Not sure if West Brom were doubling up on him, but he seemed pretty ineffective.

As for Surman, it's about time he got a song really!

Thought Surman was excellent today, although I only watched it on a poor stream. His goal was superb, a fantastically controlled volley from an excellent Hoolahan cross. Thought Wes was great today too. He's been putting in some great crosses in lately

Have to say I'm glad he's doing so well, and not just for the obvious reasons. The guy I sit next to at CR is constantly slating him during the games and I get so annoyed by it. This, and the fact that he keeps calling him Sturman. <doh>

He does himself no favours because he looks like he is ambling around at times. However, as is the case with Morison this can be misleading. When the player stats came up at half time on my stream he had covered more grass than anyone else! I also like the fact that more often than not he will make the keeper work - good composure when in on goal.

Also agree that Pilkington looked ropey today. Perhaps the niggling injury took its toll?

Disagree with the ambling around comment but it is great he has done so well this season.

Possibly his best, most 'complete' performance in a City shirt today, I thought.
Maybe even shaded man of the match - though Ruddy wasn't far behind. All good stuff<ok>

Surman seems to be greatly affected by the players around him. In games when the midfield haven't been on fire he can sometimes become anonymous but when they are on it his ability increases exponentially.

I remember I think it was the blackburn game when midfield and general performance started poorly, he was a passenger in midfield, but when wes came on with holty he suddenly ignited into play playing all his clever balls through to the strikers.

He's got his shooting boots now and the balance he brings to the midfield is excellent. Everyone is raising their game in this league. Cracking control on that volley today Andy!

always have liked Surman, never had a problem with him, always remember his first goal in the friendly against Everton , was top drawer just like him. I dont see we need to sign much we are good enough to survive would like to see PL get home with what he has and make proper considered signings in the summer for decent sums of money, all our players are PL class damn the doubters!

When we signed him I was delighted as Saints fans had told me how good he was. When he started playing I wasn't so sure and was amazed he stayed in the team after a few uninspiring performances. But a decent run has given him confidence and game time and he looks every inch a composed left sided player.
I do wonder sometimes if PL's policy of switching players does give them enough time to bed in and get used to the system and their team mates.
