The 27-year-old had an unsuccessful season at Wigan back in 2007-08 but he has emerged as one of the leading centre backs in Serie A after moving to Genoa in June 2011. Mark Hughes is hanging on to his job at Loftus Road by the skin of his teeth after last weekend's 3-1 defeat at home to Southampton, but he is hopeful of persuading owner Tony Fernandes to sanction a £4.5million move for Granqvist. A Daily Mirror source said: "There is an interest from Queens Park Rangers for Granqvist, but Liverpool and Newcastle are also considering doing something in January." Granqvist impressed during Sweden's 4-2 win over England last week.
