Wisdom told the This is Anfield matchday programme: "I watch everything he does and listen to everything he says. When we beat Norwich he was helping organise the defence from the bench. "When they had a corner I stayed back and looked and he was telling me to adjust my position a bit - then putting his thumb up when I was in the right area. "That helps a lot. He's played 700-odd games so he knows exactly what he's talking about. I really appreciate it." During his 15-year career in the Reds first team, Carragher has been deployed in a variety of positions, using his skills in every place across the back four plus appearances in midfield. "You look at someone like Jamie Carragher particularly because he played right-back, left-back and midfield before settling in the middle of defence," he explained. "I played most of my youth days in the centre-back position but I was also given experience of playing in other different areas. "I've played both right and left-back before as well as midfield. In the FA Youth Cup final of 2009, I was only 15 and started in the middle against Jack Wilshere. It was an education. "In today's game I don't think any player can afford to just say they play in one position on the pitch. Maybe in the future I'll play centre-back but as long as my name is on the teamsheet I really don't care." Wisdom's enthusiasm for featuring in the Liverpool starting line-up was most evident by his celebration after converting a header on his debut against Young Boys in the Europa League. The defender is keen to keep his feet on the ground, though, and again cited Carragher and captain Steven Gerrard as examples to follow in that regard. "I know it's easy for people to get carried away but I've only played a few games," said Wisdom, showing a similar level of maturity off the pitch as he does on it. "You see players like Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard that have been here for years and years and day in, day out, they're still proving themselves. "You can see that by the intensity of the training and by the way they perform in matches. You can never get comfortable and content. Football is so competitive, there's always someone else wanting your position. "I also realise that I play for Liverpool and sooner or later, the manager might choose to leave me out. He'll know when it's best to put any of the young lads in or take us out as well. "I understand it won't always be this way. Hopefully I'll be at Liverpool for a long time but I know there will be difficult moments. "Then again, you have to take everything as it comes. The minimum you can give is 100 per cent. If you don't you're letting yourself, the team, the fans and the coaching staff down."
Sympathy post! Nah in seriousness it shows that Carragher still has some sort of role with the club, this is more evidence to support that he should now move up in to a coaching role, he'd be a great influence on the young defenders coming through, he just shouldn't be playing with them.
No better person to teach him really. Wisdom looks like a good athlete and has the makings of a good solid player but I think he has a lot to learn in the game and hopefully he will listen to Carragher.
wonder if Carragher tells him to run slower...? And that when he receives the ball he must play netfootball and stop moving...?
