Andre Ayew still available for free, QPR cancel deadline day deal Olly Dawes 32 minutes ago please log in to view this image Olly Dawes 32 minutes ago "> please log in to view this image View image | gettyimages.com According to the Daily Mirror, Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes pulled the plug on a deadline day deal to sign Marseille forward Andre Ayew. QPR had a quiet deadline day, which was unfamiliar territory for then-manager Harry Redknapp, who has always been active on the final day of transfer windows. Just hours after being told by owner Fernandes that no more players would be signed, Redknapp resigned citing an impending knee operation as his reason for leaving Loftus Road. Yet the Mirror report that Redknapp had a deal all lined up for Marseille's Ayew - only for Fernandes to cancel the deal and leave Redknapp with little firepower in the final third. Premier League[/a] rivals Tottenham have recently been linked with him. Tutto Mercato Web suggested that Ayew, who can play out wide or up front, was a target for Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane in order to add another goalscorer to his team. Ayew, the son of legendary Ghanaian footballer Abedi Pele, has racked up 53 goals and 19 assists in 181 games for Marseille, so it's little wonder why he's attracting so much interest. And on a free transfer, he would be a bargain for anybody - but only because QPR owner Fernandes decided to pull out of a deal to bring him to West London.
Assuming this is true then the more you look at things does seem TF was doing just about anything to undermine HR presumably to encourage him to go even if means relegation. Having another wide/front option would have provided more possibilities i.e. letting Vargas play up top rather than out of position on the right.
Instead of this being undermining HR, perhaps Harold was blatantly challenging the policy given to him by the board. For once, I am giving TF credit for his January work. This window he didn't cave in to unsustainable demands!
Much intrigue. We will have to wait for 'Another Four Years', or, 'Four Years More', or 'Four Years The Sequel' for more information.
Credit for not strengthening a pretty poor team whilst all our competitors did? - not sure that deserves any credit just makes relegation more likely. Don't think anyone was suggesting to cave in to unsustainable demands but how many of us thought after letting Mutch go & bringing in some funds & freeing wages that would then do no business whatsoever?
Whatever the reality of reasons behind Harry's departure, not strengthening cant have helped our cause.
I for one did. Look back at my various posts & you will see that I have stated that the Mutch transfer was to reduce our costs. Not that it would be used for a replacement. That scenario was just hopeful thinking for some supporters. Perhaps for Harols as well. Can any of you honestly tell me of any players that we were linked to that would have improved our chances of avoiding relegation & wouldn't have been a huge finanncial drian on our resources if we hadn't survived? Our best chance of staying in the Premier was given to us on Tuesday. If HR had stayed it wouldn't matter what players we had, we would have been relegated. I give TF credit for gambling that by spending no more money he may have avoided relegation & at the very least rid us of the charlatan that was the manager of our team. Be in no doubt, if money had been spent we would sill have that man at the helm & being relegated in an even worse financial state would have resulted. To those of you wanting TF to have spent even more money, I ask how much more would you like the club's debts to have become? Queens Park Rangers do not have a penny to spend. If the owners have now realised that it is ridiculous to spend money we don't have, they deserve credit for belatedly taking this stance.
With the wealth the owners of our Club have, I expect we could have found a penny or two somewhere ! The financial risk of relegation is huge. I don't know if we were linked with any decent CB's, but I think it was vital that we strengthened our worst record in the League Defence. Huth who went to Leicester on loan wouldn't have been a bad option.
It seems incredible that there seemed to be some sort of tit-for-tat going on between TF and Harry, with the team suffering as a result of the stand-off. Why the f*ck didn't TF sack him when decent replacements were available? We could all see the team was stagnant and not likely to improve after two years of Harry...
