Interesting read, Jonny, but I suspect there may be a bias in the article. Perhaps I'm being a bit cynical, but the absence of $ numbers (requested & offered), and $ comparisons makes me wonder why they've been excluded - they're what's at issue at the end of the day.
Agreed, hard to know who is right and wrong here. I know a few years ago that FIFA referees got minimal compensation for world cup qualifies where they might have to travel to the other side of the earth. However, this was before WC 2010 at which every ref received $50,000, if I remember correctly, regardless of how many games they did or whether they were center referees or assistant referees.
