Because we needed players in other positions first. People are moaning our defence leaks too many goals, and our forwards don't score enough, and we need a solid holding midfielder. Hopefully we have those problems sorted out (time will tell). The goalkeeping position is way down the pecking order of needing sorting out.
Wouldn't trust Fergie in the goalie stakes - think of all the duffers between Schmeichal and van der Saar (including Barthez etc who should've been decent). He's third choice to two keepers that flap so much I'm surprised they didn't fly South for the Winter. In that scale I'd rate him between Roy Carroll and Massimo Taibi (OK perhaps that's a tad harsh).
Why has last season's best keeper in the Championship looked ordinary at best in the Premiership? I didn't expect that we would even have to consider replacing Kenny.
It could be the mistake that sends us down, playing Kenny instead of getting in a good keep who can actually dive. Kenny has the mobility of a 60 year old at the moment, he doesnt move until the ball is past him.
I watched a video of our first 10 games in the Championship last season the other night. Kenny looked about half his current weight, and was twice as quick back then. He made brilliant saves then that today I doubt he'd even move for. We should have got in a a new keeper January even though I think MH and most fans saw other parts of the park as bigger priorities. I hope Cerny starts again against Fulham. He did very well in the games he played in the late autumn, and was unlucky to lose his place IMO - so were we all in light of Kenny's recent performances.
I have to disagree to an extent. Yes, the other positions needed strenthening ALSO, but this would have been cheap as chips, as hes out of contract in the summer and eager to play because of the upcoming Euros. I think think we will struggle with Kenny in goal for the rest of the season. 1 clean sheet all season says it all really, hes the last line of defense, and not a very mobile one at that. I also read somewhere that he has one of the worst shots:saves ratio in the league. Not surprising really.....
Providing we stay up a new goal keeper is likely to be top of the wish list for Sparky. Chances are Paddy will either be second or third keeper if he stays and would more than likely team up with his old gaffer at Leeds. He was probably our second most important player next to Adel last season and his drop in form is most odd, not sure if it is purely injury based or if there is a lack of confidence. We were being linked to Gomez from Spuds but I'm not convinced he is the answer either. I'm sure with his connections Sparky will have an eye out for a new man to put between the sticks.
I cant believe how bad Paddy has got. He was amazing last year and this year has hardly made many decent saves and let in some soft goals. Gutted really as I had him down as being one of the top keepers in the Premiership when we came up.
Its not just how bad he is, its how good Cerny has looked in the games hes played. Cerny has been fantastic, Kenny has been awful yet were dropping point after point playing Kenny for some reason.
Robert Green is out of contract in the summer, would be my bet. Value for money, something Phil Beard loves
Apologies, I meant Away from home. Still, clutching at straws really bringing up the 9 men of Chelsea and a 2 bob team from the fizzy pop league.
And we didnt go in for him in January why...... Well like the London Olympics ... he's a little bit ****
Kenny was injured earlier in the season - is he 100% fully fit or still carrying a knock? Only the management will know....
Trouble is....Cerny is carrying a long term injury, which probably explains why he's not taken over the no1 spot.
I heard that before he played those games in the late autumn, but he still played very well! Isn't Cerny in training now?
