After being diagnosed with lung cancer in October, he yesterday died as the result of a heart attack, aged 66. After being rushed to St Vincent's Hospital, he was unable to be revived. He died, surrounded by family, at 1:45pm local time in Sydney.

    Vale Anthony William Grieg. 1936-2012.

It makes me laugh how someone's life is rewritten immediately that they die. I always thought he was a boorish South African with no respect for anyone who sold his soul to the devil for a few extra quid with his absolute nadir being the "I'll make them grovel" comments prior to the 1976 West Indies series. It turns out that he was actually the saviour of the sport and was just very positive and attacking in his attitude - hmmmmm.......

Seemed a decent guy to me, distant relative to John Greig of Rangers.

    RIP Tony

He was no saint Dan but who is? He paid a major part in the Packer revolution of cricket. I didn't like the man all that much, but I have to concede that without the likes of him, that foray into cricket would probably have failed. Sure he was but a bit player, controlled by Big Kerry, but he was someone we could all detest on the field. He has an important place in the lore of cricket. As stated, I didn't think too much of him, but what have I done to match his deeds?

I agree with all that Cyc - my comment was mnore an observation of how quickly the media change tack as soon as someone's died.

Yeah Dan, it's one of those strange paradoxes in life, the bloke next might have been a real turd in life, but in death, "he wasn't a bad bloke, sure he had the odd problem, but deep down, he was ok."

We have to say nice stuff about the dead. Even if they were ****s. <laugh>

And with that, bed. Nice running into you again mate. Don't get too hammered in the next couple of days. :)
