I'm pretty sure this agreement, even if it were just a verbal 'Gentleman's agreement' was in place when the Spuds tried and failed again to qualify for the CL the season before last. Bale said then that he would have to consider his future in order to play CL football. The spuds again failed to qualify, and the honourable thing would be to allow Bale to fulfil his potential at a big club.
