http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...own-manchester-united-job-david-moyes-wa-1975 Moyes third choice. I wonder how many other chelsea boys turned down United
The story was broken by Le Parisien. But real are bigger than United so there is no shame in being turned down for real
All those quotes in that article must make it true! The article references Ancelloti declining the request a week ago, but Moyes was appointed two weeks ago.
Seriously though, not even the most delusional of United fans can seriously believe Moyes was first choice. He may not have been 3rd, but there's no way he was 1st. Your club care about the brand first and foremost. If it were solely down to the Glazers, Mourinho would have been offered the job 1st and if it were down to Fergie, it would probably have been Ancelotti.
I think Moyes was Fergies first choice, Mourinho may have been the Glazers first choice, but the Glazers let the people who know football make the decision. For all the abuse some people give the Glazers they've done a great job since they took over. Once you look past the debt (which has been manageable) we've only become a bigger brand and we've never had an issue with money not being available. Part of that success was letting the people who know football, make the football decisions, and they let those people make the choice of who succeeds Sir Alex. Most likely, many top managers around Europe were contacted about the job, and after speaking to the managers they were able to narrow down the candidates, just like someone would in a normal interview process. I don't think Moyes would have been most fans first choice, but all we can do now is give him our full support. Wouldn't surprise me if Mourinho was offered the same contract Moyes was, but turned it down when he saw the 6 year contract.
