RVP said he'd had an sit down BEFORE the Euros "unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward" So at that time he didn't know about Giroud or Cazorla who must people in world football have complemented us on purchasing the necessary quality, age to improve the squad enough to challenge Its starting to make RVP comments look miss directional when money must be his top priority However maybe his statement was a plan to get the board, manager and co. to finally invest some money where needed Potentially there was no plan to bring in any more players and RVP was upset but hoped his comments would finally lead to some action..if it didn't he'd leave or see out his final year. Not getting all conspiracy theorist here who know who sanctioned the purchases but since those comments we've gone into over drive with us still on the cusp of signing more great quality (Sahin) I was shocked by RVP original statement, he's captain, his family love it here, and he owes the manager and club for all the bad times where we stuck by him Obviously the gamble is the fans turn on you after releasing that but as seen with Rooney a couple of years ago beinging photographed signing a new long term contract and shaking the managers hand can change all that animosity in a heartbeat I'm obviously trying to put a positive spin on this but all can agree the situation hasn't made any sense, why would he be that disrespectful? Why make those comments if he knew we planned to make large investments? One things for sure though if he stays he MUST sign a new deal...he can't remain captain and play when his committeemen is in doubt
Sorry fella, as much I would love your theory to be right, I feel that his statement was carefully written by his agent and the likes of Darren Dein, they questioned the way the club is run and they did that because they wanted to cut all ties between RVP and Wenger/the board. This statement was their version of the transfer request which they did not want to give because it would cost them money.
He wants to go to a place where it's dead easy to win a trophy. By the time of his letter Podolski and Giroud were done deals basically. At Arsenal, no matter the investment, it would be hard work to get a trophy. At some place like Man City he can get a trophy even sitting in the bench most season. So no, I don't think it's money but the desperation to get some easy (even undeserved) trophies in the twilight of his career.
I agree with both of you but why be disrepectful to the direction the club is going he could have wrapped it up using different words but with the same impact http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ve-Manchester-United-clubs-lack-ambition.html With our spending, plus Chelsea it's tough to say who'll win what next year...obviously with our record we have the lesser odds to win a trophy but there's no obvious team that's going to win it all. Chelsea were crap last year and won the CL...Man City won on goal difference and United didn't win anything United finished 19 points ahead of us but we got further in the Champions League and after the current summer spending I think we've closed the gap on them somewhat The longer this drags on the more chance he'll stay...plus he's traveling to Germany with the rest of the squad
I think RVP and his agent made a big mistake releasing that statement. Especially after he and the club had agreed to stay quiet until it was all sorted out. Whatever happens now, RVP is going to look like a bit of a twat, if he stays, then his statement is hugely embarrassing, if he goes, then he goes under a cloud - knowing that the 'lack of ambition' assertion was a complete crock of ****.
Despite all the bad feeling that the statement caused I'm still hoping he stays. If he starts banging in the goals like last season, all will be forgiven as far as I'm concerned. If he decides to stay, a well worded statement and a nice, lovey-dovey press conference would help heal the wounds and we can look forward to a truly exciting season. I think we'll be potent without him but with him I believe we can seriously challenge for the league. He definitely made an error of judgement but it isn't an irretrievable situation.
Agree with that. If we football fans are one thing, it's fickle. If he stays, I will cheer his name. If he goes, he will be a ****. That is the nature of the beast
I must have read a different statement because the one i read basically said the same thing Arsenal fans have been saying for the past few years. The club has shown a complete lack of ambition in recent years. This Summer so far is looking to be different though.
He is a player and the captain of the team, not an anonymous fan. What he said could have been said in private. At the very least he would give arsenal some negotiating power if we was absolutely certain he would leave. If you think this was some kind of gesture of concern for the club as opposed to a "come get me" message to other clubs, you're a bit naive to say the least.
Exactly, look at the Man U fans with Rooney and the Scousers with Gerrard who was looking for a Chelsea move before he was er 'told' not to
