Having been quite rightly picked up on my incorrect and slightly confusing usage of the word forum as the collective noun for posters I have been wondering what the correct term for us would be. Having instantly discarded the more negative options such as a fury or a scathe, I’m going for an insightfulness of posters.

I’d like to throw this open to the insightfulness out there for any other suggestions. It is possible that you may feel that other teams or other forums would require a different term.

Those who are busy, not interested or just feel that I write too much, please stop reading at this point while I ramble on…

There are some great collective nouns in existence. A crash of rhinoceroses has always been a favourite, a parliament of owls is very evocative and a charm of finches very poetic. Then there is a murder of crows which must have inspired the title of one of my favourite songs, A murder of one by the Counting Crows.

    Alliteration helps with collective nouns.

    A possee of posters
    A poser of posters
    A roster of posters

But a question of posters, a sticky of posters,

Of course this is a forum, bears all the hallmarks of free speech in the context of a modicum of order and respect. Forums are rarely about uniform opinion; sometimes attain levels of reasoned debate; and are often fairly raucous.

    That's definitely us innit?!!

As for the need for an (alliterative) collective noun to describe posters on a website forum such as ours:

    • a forum of fans?
    • a parliament of posters?
    • a rabble of Rangers?

Any good? For me it has to be the first one but I'm sure some among our number will come up with more witty offerings...

I have a couple that could be appropriate, as a group in our entirity:- 1) A diligence of messengers

Once a week as now we enter into war 10 more times this year we should be together against the enemy and on every match day stand together
as:- 2) The Belligerent Hoops Army

    A whinge of posters.

If they're not whinging about the players, manager or board they are whinging about those who are whinging about the players, manager and board.

Smack on the button Eamon. I take it you meant 'we're' as opposed to 'they're' in the second line!

    Yours whingingly
