I thought today definately showed how well we are progressing as a team.Having played all the top teams (exc Newcastle !?) only Tottenham outplayed us and then only when we had 9 men. Otherwise we have won 2 and should have won the other 2. With the back 4 looking solid (without Carra),Lucas and Adam really playing well in midfield and Suarez a constant thraet up front you can see how we are moving forward. The only real disappointment has been the lack of quality from wide areas and the lack of ability to take more of the chances we create. We now have a run of games where we shouldn't really loose and should see us get afoothold in the top 4 providing we go into these games with the right attitude like today. I still feel we need to strengthen wide right and a goalscorer but no idea who. So well done so far and I think we will only get stronger as the season goes on plus we have done this without gerrard for most of the season although we do miss his goals.
we look a lot more solid lately and i think most supporters would have been happy if offered 4 points from the chelsea and city games
The only thing that bothers me (at least today anyway) is not so much the quality of balls from out wide, but more the lack of players getting into the box. Lucas and Adam have been brilliant in midfield, but it's on those sort of occasions where you can rely on a Gerrard to time his run perfectly, or even Bellamy and Maxi. Henderson still needs to develop that side of his game, though I've seen more from him than I expected in his first season here.
Overall he was a bit rubbish, but they were nice signs here and there. He just needs to go out there and play without worrying about the opposition so much.
The good thing about todays performance was that it it wasn't all blood and thunder. We matched their football.
I think Bellers had been pencilled in before the shocking Gary Speed news. Can't blame him for stepping down. Henderson can only improve. I trust Kenny to draw it out of him. I WAS impressed that we went at City knowing we were every bit as good as them. And we were even better than that. Very disappointed we didn't get the 3 pts. What we now need is to dominate lesser teams comprehensively rather than taking them for granted then wondering why we only come away with 1 or 0 points!
I agree gonz, I think City's emergence as the team has coincided with Utd's poorest squad for years an Arsenal collapse,Chelsea getting to old and ourselves rebuilding after a couple of years of turmoil and change. City were there for the taking today but as usual this season we let ourselves down in front of goal(and the City keeper had a great game).we more than matched them overall and they are not unbeatable or invincible.
why are opposing keepers always fantastic at anfield... that said, reina was quite impressive as well today with his more unconventional saves
Happy with the performance but disappointed and frustrated at the lack of men in the box. Luis was often isolated up front and had no support. I rather see Luis out on the wing or supporting the striker rather than being the main forward. Would be better to see Dirk up front with Luis supporting.
A better indication of how far we have come will be the next seven games. It is a fact we always raise our game against the big teams and its not a surprise that we have managed to collect a decent 4/6points. Now is when the players need to stand and be counted we need a purple patch now and should we win 5 out of 6 games then I will believe things are definitely changing. By the way our next 7 games are Fulham (A) QPR (H) Villa (A) Wigan (A) Blackburn (H) Newcastle (H)
