Haven't been on here for a while so thought i would have a look, and wow what has happened to this forum. When it was first set up after 606 was shut down, there used to be decent discussion about football and pompey. After each game there would a discussion about the game, who played well/bad etc just what a FOOTBALL forum should be about. After reading some of the articles today, just wow.... absolutely nothing on yesterdays game, an article about hating arsenal fans because they pay high prices for season tickets and wear there clubs shirts on buses??, really? Bring back some proper talk and more people might come on here, just look at the scum board absolutely thriving like 606 used to be, i know they have probably gained the plastic fans that left us a couple of seasons ago, but there is still enough of us to have a decent discussion.

    I shall start one now.

Did anyone go to the game yesterday? I unfortunately couldn't make it, first game ive missed at Fratton Park for a couple of seasons :(. Did we deserve to lose yesterday?

I've heard ashley harris didn't play very well yesterday?? I think appleton made a mistake starting him, he has been a great impact player, and im guessing he played left wing, a position i don't rate him, stick with jack compton, hes been excellent there so far this season. I know harris is a local lad but think people get a bit carried away with him eg singing 'Theres only one Ashley Harris' when he came on for his debut last year before he had even touched the ball.... Another big mistake by appleton replacing injured long with walker, pushing a CM russell to CB, dont understand it at all when webster, ertl and michalik are sat on the bench, all CBs. I like appleton but sometimes his substitutions worry me, shows his inexperience, he makes subs way to late! Anyone got any views on yesterdays game? Also with players monthly deals to run out will anyone leave??

Also another quick point with Walsall manager in the week questioning our spending power, has he got a point? We managed to hang on to some decent players other clubs surely would have been after, Williamson, Rodgers, Howard to name a few, i know they have all said they hung around because we are a massive club, but do you really believe them? i've heard rumours of some of these players on 4-5K a week too much for league 1 players. Is this just same old pompey??

I agree, Apples made a mistake starting Ashley Harris- at the minute, he's better as an impact player <ok>

And, just to clear things up, I wasn't referring to Arsenal fans wearing their replica shirts proudly- but more that everyone seems to support a "top 4" Premier League side these days, and not their local, lower division team. They should have a look at lower league football- its full of skill, mistakes, goals, drama, excitement and players playing for the shirt, and fans who follow their club up and down the country. Not money searching players, like Samir Ca$hri etc., as I call him, not caring about his footballing performance, but the money in his bank, or players not man enough to forget past incidents and shake hands before a match (i.e Terry and Ferdinand)..

Even a few weeks back when I was in Swansea, there were more Manchester United shirts than their home team's. It is disappointing to see people turn their backs on a local team, playing with pride, to follow a team 100 miles away because they win Premier League's etc..

Agree we need more topical discussions here portsmouthtillidie. We only have a small band of members on here so we end up with quite a few off-topic threads to 'make up the numbers'. It does give our board a bit of a "Readers Digest" look at times. Perhaps if you could persuade a few friends/work colleagues to join up, we can have more Pompey talk with more contributors <ok>

Being overseas I prefer to use places like this for the 41 rather than the media - I prefer to hear it from the horse's mouth. I do therefore look forward to reading post-match reports and opinions on here.

Not sure what the reason was/is for everyone deserting this site but it seemed to happen rapidly when we went back into admin. Just a few of us carried on trying to keep the board alive.

Just because another manager says it, doesn't make it true. There might be 1 or 2 on a higher wage than 10 or 11 others, but neither we, nor he, know the ins and outs of the players budgets. It would be interesting to know if the £1.5m quoted by Appleton includes coaching staff.

As to the game itself, when I can't get to FP I have to listen to the visitor's commentary through the Cherries player - no other choice, so it's difficult to know really what to make of the game from their, rather obviously, biased viewpoint. That's one reason it is so handy to discuss the game with people who were actually there to see it - but then we all see what we see which can be different to what somebody else has seen.

The one positive thing I can see from the Walsall game was the fact that we actually managed to sit seven on the sub's bench.

When was the last time we had a 'full squad' on the team sheet?

This board is what you make it, ptid. Keep posting because we need the numbers.

I think you are being a bit unfair however. The season has only recently started and there has been a match report, up until the last match. Yes there is a lot of non football related stuff, especially during the close season, but I don't think that has driven people away.

Pompey are simply in a bloody awful place and a lot of people have just given up and moved on. It's great that you have returned and hopefully more people will follow suit.

Problem is how do you attract more members. It's not easy and you can't exactly jump round other Pompey sites and poach their best members. The Saints board is looking pretty good now and I think we have reached a critical mass where we are popular enough to attract regular new signups, great. Probably the only answer is keep your site good quality and be patient. Now the season is in full swing I'm sure you will attract more Pompey opinion.

If we are brutally honest, at the end of BBC606's time, it was already pretty thin on the ground, where the Pompey pages were concerned.

I mentioned on another thread a little while ago that the Pompey forums I've found aren't much different really - quite a few people signed up but only a few regular posters.

I've posted my Player Ratings thread after every game this season- bar the last one, as I could not make it to the match, or listen to it on the radio.

The last Ratings Thread is here: http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...ndon-s-Player-Ratings?highlight=Pompey_London

My favourite of this season's are: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/163061-18-8-12-Portsmouth-v-Bournemouth-P_F_L-s-Player-Ratings

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/163946-21-8-12-Colchester-v-Portsmouth-P_F_L-s-Player-Ratings

Lapras has helped out a lot with his build-up thread about the Pompey Ladies' matches as well:

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...entry-City-Ladies-F-C?highlight=Pompey Ladies

And of course before every match, dev gives us top-quality preview threads.

Everything still ticks over just fine! <ok>

If its any consolation, you guys still have more threads than 4 or 5 teams on the premiership boards!

I think after the Olympics and Paralympics many people, myself included feel a bit jaded as far as football is concerned. The continued ill feeling between players, the cheating and play acting from players earning £200k+ a week leaves a bad taste.

Football just doesn't seem so important - especially when you have just lost 6 - 1

Its all just part of the game now, something that everyone will have to get used to, i blame the media for turning these footballers into untouchable celebrities, even at league 1 level they are portrayed as something special. Expect the same with our Olympians they are now being built up as massive celebrities, Victoria Peddleton being an example. The paralympians are the real heroes. All this considered though there is still something about the passion in football that is above everything else and is why its the best sport in the world!

Hello portsmouthtillidie please note that one of the best ways to ensure a sensible and mature level of debate is to cut out the Skate/Scum nonsence.

I didn't bother reading beyond your first paragraph for that reason.

If you edit the insult out of your OP then I will attempt to give you a sensible response.

    Pot/kettles and all that jazz.

This is becoming a tired old nonsense now. Every now and again I look on the Saints board and the use of the term Skates is liberally thrown around there.

What's sauce for the goose and all that gander etc.

It would seem that portsmouthtillidie has already recognised the error of his ways. Well done lad and ignore 3rd eye when he gets a bit grumpy.

I've been doing my bit so how much have Iearned so far?

Perhaps more importantly will I be paid if I have earned anything because I am not prepared to sign any compromise agreement?
