Inspired by QPRMatt's recent post on Kiwi's Who Do You Think You Are Thread.......

Fantastic thread (well done Kiwi) - every single post is a gem.
Could we do some kind of desert island discs style thread too (since it feels practically like an international break at the moment)?

    I'll open up with:

Beth, I love carry me - and that version in particular. I love the way the bass kicks in for each chorus, and the dreads flow. The levellers are awesome. Great to run to.

One of my current faves is "oh my heart" by rem. Don't know how to do links, but if anyone's interested, check out the 'live in studio' version on YouTube.

Do not believe this (shades of Victor Meldrew there), I thought Staines R was my long lost brother, but now realise it is you Woody. You like the Levs and REM, cannot believe it (for the second time)
Followed REM around for years, took my daughters to see them rehearse in Dublin. Cried when "Collapse into Now" came out as I knew it was the end of 20 years devotion. I love "Oh my heart", but even better "Uberlin" and the last track on the album/ever "Blue". That track "Oh My heart" is one of the last things they ever did before splitting
Everybody do what Woody says, do it now, and look for "Oh my Heart" on YouTube

Beth, it's funny, I was at work today, wiring a huge room, had the whole place to myself. I made up a playlist to inspire me. It had a couple of counting crows tracks, few from pearl jam, but it was mainly REM and levellers. I listened, and sung loudly to far from home, sell out, liberty, beanfield - hadn't listened to them in a long time. Loved it.
I love REM. It was listening to them, aged 11 or 12, that made me love music. I can pretty much reflect on any part of my last 20 or so years by listening to something of they've done. Country feedback, world leader pretend, camera, fall on me, how the west was won, beat a drum.....

When my kids go to bed at night, we read a story and listen to a song on my phone. For the last 2 weeks, every night, it's been orange crush, live at pinkpop. They sing "I've got my spine, I've got my orange squash"!

Sad that they've ended it, especially given that they're still so good, but they'll be one more gig one day - I hope.

My kids loved Orange Crush too..."I I've got my spider, I've got my orange squash" is what they would sing.

Shame the song is actually about Michael Stipes father dropping Agent Orange on Vietnamese peasants during the Vietnam War, otherwise it would be a great kids song. It is fantastic that someone else out there has such great musical taste. I thought I was the only one. Respect
