This is a real coup for the city... please log in to view this image Twelve replicas of Leonardo da Vinci's famous flight and wind machines are set to be one of the highlights of this summer's Amy Johnson Festival in Hull. The full-scale reproductions will be displayed in a specially-constructed gallery in Zebedee's Yard, the new public space in the Trinity House estate off Princes Dock Street and Whitefriargate. They are being loaned by the world-famous Da Vinci Museum in Florence, Italy. Alongside the Renaissance era machines, specially-commissioned works by contemporary artists will also be featured in the exhibition. They will focus on themes of flight and engineering and will be accompanied by a series of talks and hands-on workshops for young people. The Da Vinci reproductions will be displayed throughout the festival, which runs from Saturday, July 2, to Sunday, August 21. Admission to the Da Vinci gallery will be £5 for adults and £3 for students, under 18s and senior citizens. Special arrangements and prices will be available for school parties and groups of 10 or more. The last exhibition of Da Vinci work in Hull attracted thousands of visitors when the Ferens Art Gallery hosted a show of ten drawings by the artist in 2012. Details of the Amy Johnson programme are due to be announced on Thursday by organisers of the festival, which aims to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Hull-born pilot's record-breaking solo flight between London and Australia. Johnson died in 1941 while flying for the RAF. Other highlights will be a two-day international kite festival at Beverley Racecourse and an already-announced spectacular performance called Place des Anges by French street art group Gratte Ciel in Queens Gardens on Saturday, July 2. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Amy-...tory-29188846-detail/story.html#ixzz476pmzvY4

I might be wrong but the feature on Look North last night made the replicas of Leonardo da Vinci's famous flight and wind machines look more like models than full size replicas?
I went to see the Leonardo stuff at the Ferens Art Gallery a while back and to say it was awsome is being disingenious, he was without doubt a genius so anything to do with him now on show I shall not miss. Amy Johnson has never had the recognition that the American Amelia Earhart received for similar achievements so maybe a little more banner waving for the Hull won't go amiss.
No idea, I just spotted it in an article on Amy Johnson and it said it was in the entrance to Kingston High School.
