Now I confess I am far from a conasour of world football and all to often have judged the calibre of a player by the size of fee so looking at who to bring in and asking my opinion, yes I know you didn’t, is a dangerous thing to do.

I also know that we all want us to sign top, top players and our collective hearts sink when we scan the gossip columns to read Boothroyd, DJ Campbell, Vaughn.

But remembering we are a top ten premier side more by luck than judgment and we don’t have a Chelea or City bank account, who do we bring in to show our ambition but remain realistic?

I rely on my expert friends and BC to build me a team, give me the starting team for next season.

I think our Mid-Table slump has maybe not been as abad a thing as a lot of our fans thought - when you look at it we finished 10th - had we picked up 9 or 10 points in the 13 game run where we got 1, we'd have been top 7 and a lot of our fans would be baying for Champions League next season as the fans always want "more next year" - finishing 10th has given us the platform to go onwards and, potentially, upwards to top 7 or 8 next year instead of having over ambitious fans looking at top 4 or 5 (which we are not ready for - regardless of how it looked when DB left)

Signing wise - I think the relative cheap players such as Campbell (rather than Bothroyd) etc. wouldn't be bad as he was the 2nd top english scorer in the PL last season (as was a certain DB the season before) and singning a player who has proved at PL level and scoredd goals is, IMO, more important than looking for some top class player - Campbell would surely be a squad player but would also push the likes of Gyan to perform week in week out.

Time will tell - class will always come at a price, and often that price includes baggage which we don't really want at SAFC - no prima donna's just good players with the ability - we'll see eh!!

Owen just signed a new deal at Man U, Welbeck for £8million would be a good start

mitch - whilst I rate Berbatov (or, as my son calls him, Burgertop) I'm not sure he'd fit into our mold - we all though Jones was lazy but Berbatov is just asbad (if not worse) - will never "bust a gut" for the team and will never put head or foot where it hurts so I'm not sure how our fans would take to him - also his £110k a week wages may be a stumbler!!
