Noticed before the Southampton match that what was 'Blah Bar' (which has obviously shut down) was being totally refurbished. It says 'Coming Soon - another Amber Taverns development'. Just remembered about it and looked into it; Somebody has done their homework! It is to be called the; Ebenezer Morley. ....I wonder what market they're targeting?
This is on their website, I don't think they looked at the present clientele. ''To own and maintain the best pubs in our operating areas fitted out to the highest standards. Provide an outstanding value for money offer. To encourage our managers to take ownership of their business and to give their customers just what they want in a safe, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. To work closely with all the relevant authorities to ensure we are at the forefront of responsible alcohol retailing. To be innovative, dynamic and constantly striving to deliver the best service possible in our pubs and strive for excellence in everything that we do.''
Opposite Admiral, never been in but it was a complete ****hole full of jeremy kyle types when it was called 'bedroom' years ago. I can see it being quite popular on matchdays though with this new name.
Opposite Admiral of the Humber, here: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=ca...HOZ0bPzgMn4hkkgj-E5Awg&cbp=12,312.67,,0,-3.84 Though looking at it on Streetview now, it might actually be the 'KC/Colour Pages' unit instead, as I remember it having a big glass frontage, and looked a lot wider than Blah Bar is. Will pay more attention before the Newcastle match.
Just been past and it actually looks really smart from the outside, it's been merged with the building next door.
What has the present clientele to do with it? Do you think the new people will want to attract the old clientele or a new set?
Used to be Blah, which in turn used to be Chequers. Looks well smart the new place. Much needed in the New Town area where most of the pubs are ****.
I'm still surprised nothing has been done with the former Yates' (Kingston Tavern) in the new town area.
Yep, still has the food menus outside, looks the same as the day it closed. It's a nice big building, shame it's still vacant.
Chequers, that's the one I was thinking of, not Macy's. Did Macy's used to be Headrooms ? Loads of TV's along the walls?

When a pub has a refit the old customers usually go back in, it wasn't the best clientele in there. If you get a strong landlord who isn't afraid to ask people to leave or ban 'em it should do ok. I sound like a right snob.
