Van Basten on why RVP should commit to The Arsenal.

'I still think Arsenal are the most beautiful club in England. At Man City and Chelsea, they will never have that class and style,' he told the Sunday Mirror.

'Arsenal have the most amazing stadium, they have a style of play, they have a beautiful shirt – in every way I consider Arsenal as the ultimate football club".

'It is the club where Robin belongs.'

'Arsenal are a really big club. With a few more top-quality players around him, Robin will improve his chances when it comes to winning things and being successful,' Van Basten said.

I rather like the away kit, it reminds me of a similar kit Arsenal had when I was younger.. Since its celebrating 125 years of the club, then I see it as a fitting tribute.

    You're 125 years old? That's older than Cym <yikes>

Personally, I think the kit makes Arshavin look like a jockey without an horse!

he does seem to make odd decisions as to when to chase the 'lost cause' and when to just stand there frustrated at losing the ball.

The dutch have always played football the right way (apart from the final against Spain). They created the whole total football philosophy before anyone else, and were advanced beyond their time. Now we see teams like Barcalona and Arsenal play the same way, with Barcalona/Spain dominating world football. That is why the dutch in general love us so much. Let's just hope that we do get a couple of players to support RVP. If not for the fans but RVP deserves a trophy!

  13. Ditto the away kit. I think we've had some great away kit in the past. Admittedly there have been a few howlers too but I guess you can't get it right all the time. The home kit is by far the most distinctive and I'm truly not biased ;)

MvB is spot on. RvP is Arsenal through and through. I rejoiced at him signing for us back in '04 and can't wait for him to ink his next contract with us <ok>

I think we should do away with this silly 1 year contracts for 30 year olds. I would sign RVP up to a 4-5 year contract to end his career with us. I can also see RVP playing as an attacking midfielder later on in his career, which should prolong his career, like Giggs. The guy is loaded with skills and can play a few frontline positions....

Actually Lazarus Total Football is the system employed where every player can play in every position, they can rotate/fill in during the game. No other team played this way and no other team will ever play this way, with our regimented football 4-5-1 or 3-5-2, its all about packing the midfield which I find utterly boring.

I know what you mean but i really think, this is something Wenger is trying to do. If you look at our defence, all are comfortable on the ball, all can pass and all can shoot, except Mertz. That is why Wenger doesn't want to get your standard defender, he wants someone very mobile and skillful.

Its a big shame that Cryffs Holland did not win the world cup, as total football is the best format to watch!

I see your point - Wenger only seems to go for technically sound footballers and the fact he continually plays players out of position could be the reason why.

  18. Quite right there Mr Head

His approach seems to suggest that for the most part, a player can be located in a position that doesn't come naturally to the man. Arsene's narrow focus is a very risky proposition. I'm sure that in catching up with the ground-breaking ways of his introduction to the EPL, other managers were forced to learn from Arsene. Now perhaps is the time for him to learn from them. I think he could learn from SAF. Taking a leaf or two out of the Scot's book may not do any of us any harm. I doubt if Arsene has anything like that in mind though.

  19. True Lazarus

Perhaps in signing Mikel Arteta on a long term contract, Arsene has finally come to see that it ain't too old to be 30. Heck, the man ought to know!!!! RvP ending his career with us in the manner that you suggest would find much favour among fans I'm sure <ok>
