https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44850888 amazing that small clubs no longer need fans but are also so utterly dependant on tv money.
my question is: if stadium revenue is then only for buying players why would a club like utd not just move to new york and be done with it like franchises in yankball? I mean charge the richest Plebs possible for the privilege of being bored to tears. you could move chelsea to russia. city to Qatar. everton to well...... nobody would want them.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-45175226 The club grassed him with his consent up to take away the story from the journos, well played.
Awful statistic. Hopefully we're relegated sooner rather than later... football is dead at the highest level.
just goes to show.... if you were not spending mad fees on players you could cream it for a few years in the prem. Don't even need the money from stadium to turn a healthy profit.... so in theory clubs could offer 5 quid ga tickets and hammer the corporates and not even notice the impact.
So clubs don't really need gate receipts anymore yet it's still priced too high for proper fans and not prawn sandwich brigade to attend games. Just goes to show how greedy the sport has come. Sad times
I would like to think that if the money from fans isn't as important as it was then ticket prices could come down or is that just stupid?
I agree, pity though. I'd love to go more than once a season but I simply cannot afford around £150 a game.
It's what they do in Germany. The revenue from match days is pitiful compared to sponsorship and tv revenue, so they make tickets dirt cheap and have the biggest average crowds because of it.
It's also worrying to think, should the tv money dry up, what would happen to those clubs like Southampton, Burnley and Everton who are relying so heavily on it? It also feeds back into why those clubs are against the top clubs negotiating their own tv deals.
Regarding us and Burnley, we'll almost certainly find out in the next 4/5 years or so. It's not just the fact it would increase attendances too but also that the demographic of supporters has changed which leads to the dreadful atmosphere at most games bar the away end.
They really should. Absolutely no reason why they can't tbh. The only thing I'd add is that fans probably wouldn't be happy with an (inevitable) price hike following a relegation.
They are done. The reality is it is money flowing through clubs like a dose of salts in transfer fees and wages. If the tv money dries up then one would presume the contracts will dry up to match this. Burnley are only in the prem due to one man Sean Dyche (IMO) and I think they know it. They've piad whats needed to get the right player and TBH if the wages dry up they will be fine, they will cut the cloth to meet whats possible I'd contrast to swansea who were reportedly paying 80% of turnover in wages and have got relegated. I would already fear for that club. ... look at villa for example
So in reality Everton's new stadium doesn't need any stands or places for spectators to sit... They can play in an unspectated stadium and probably play a laugh track over the tannoy to have atmosphere.
