We waited all this time so we could get him! He is one striker who has never been clinical in his whole career he takes to many chances to Score we have already got one of them in Giroud. £40mil and there were some on here saying Higuain was not Worth £35mil for a clinical striker who played for one of the top teams in the world and since he joined Real Madrid only 5 players in world football has scored more goals than him. Obviously we need body's for the team but why wait all this time to get him? Hopefully he will be just one of the five to six players of real quality that we need. We are not a bad team we just need some help.
A stat comparison ..... Hiquain App/Goals 2012: 28/16 2011: 35/22 2010: 17/10 Total in life: 225 / 120 goals (55 assists) Benzema App/Goals 2012: 30/11 (-5) 2011: 34/21 (-1) 2010: 33/15 (-1) Total in life: 257 / 114 goals (42 assists) It shows statistically that Hiquain is more efficient (and would be cheaper). But having said that - surely it must have been a reason why Benzema is the first striker in Real Madrid and not Hiquain.
It all comes down to who fits our system better. If Wenger likes the look of Benzema more, he would have a clear idea on how best to utilising him in the most efficient and productive manner. Personally I think Benzema would fit our system better, as well as the Premiership. He is more powerful and explosive than Higuain, and has the ability to play all along the front three, a prerequisite Arsene has in his current system. Saying that, Higuain would also be a success in our team but that boats come and gone.
I've been saying for years that I wanted Benzema at Arsenal as I think he has all the ingredients to be a really special player. He also fits our system/style of play perfectly. Benzema is better than Higuian and considerably better than Giroud. For me he is just the kind of striker we need. He's quick, powerful and aggressive and will therefore have no issues adapting to the EPL.
Benzema and Higuain had an odd relationship at Real. They almost never played together and competed with each other for years. Its extremely odd that Real would give up on both after investing so much in them for so long. Higuain scored often in the league but had poor performances everywhere else (he still scored quite a few). Benzema scored in the CL all the time and against lower opposition. They both had their flaws and strengths and were used accordingly. Higuain would have suited your style of play much more. However Benzema is a top striker and if the reports are true he would be an improvement on all your current lot.
This is pathetic. People moan when we were linked with Suarez, claiming they didn't want him and whatnot. The same with Benzema now. Fyi, it is Higuain who needs a few chances to score. Benzema's a better finisher regardless of what the stats show. Obviously you don't know that as you're purely going on statistics alone. I'm not the biggest fan of Benzema, as he tends to blow hot and cold quite often. But he's a very talented striker, and when on song he's unstoppable. His style of play would suit us much more than Higuain too, as he's just a better footballer. I'm more keen on Di Maria though. Regardless, this is probably more hot air from Wenger & co. Not taking it serious at all.
Look I don't know how much football you watch outside of the Premier league but for me I watch a hell of a lot too much sometimes also my wife's family from Madrid and are Madrid mad so I AM force to go to games (I like Barcelona) when we bring the kids down so the family can see them. Benzema from what a get from them is that he slow, lazy takes to many chances to score so he not that liked by a lot of there supporters as they Usually boo him (so he should feel right at home at the Emirates) and he only there because of Zidane. Me with what I have seen with my own eyes Higuain is by far a better finisher in club and internationals. Benzema could be a beast but all I have seen is potential but 25 is a good age to start.
I was referring to how much of a failure this summer transfer has been in general. Pretty obvious what it meant. But hey don't let that stop you from defending Wenger & co.
Fair enough. But your original post came across a bit ignorant when you likened Benzema's finishing to Giroud's. Benzema, as inconsistent as he is, would offer more than just goals. We don't just need a poacher. We need a guy who can take the ball past 2-3 guys and put it past the keeper. I do get why you don't like him though. I feel the same way too. He's extremely lazy and out of shape.
Thank you. You are so right the kind of player we need is that type of player who like you say can go pass 2-3 players on the pitch and make other teams defenders piss there pants and that should open up space for us to exploit. In world football right now we need Suarez he is the key but the season before last I would of said no but he adapted to the Premier league well last season and we saw it in his goals so it show you how much I know about football!
I think this article highlights how difficult it is to pick players for Arsenal to sign. While we all say Ramsey, Giroud, Wilshere, Walcott, etc., are "Not good enough." It is difficult to name a player that we all agree is better than they are, and that is available. At the same everyone ridicules Wenger for saying that it is difficult to find players of the right quality. Not only that, but it seems even when we do settle on a player that is accepted to be at least as good as the players we have, like Gustavo, even he seems worried that he is better than the players we have, opting as he did for a certain place in the Wolfsburg team over fighting over a place with Arteta and Ramsey. I think Higuain also was a little worried about competing with Giroud and Podolski for the CF role, particularly as he was sensitive to the issue from his time at Real. After all Real sat him for Benzema, who some people consider lazy and useless, and not an improvement on Giroud. I'm not going to come out and say that no mistakes have been made, but I suspect the truth about our transfer dealings this summer has been far more mundane and less inept than most people are claiming. We are in a difficult place right now, with a fairly useful and improving first XI and not a lot of depth. Yes, we have some money, but it is still going to take a very confident and skilled player to come in and take a starting spot away from one of our existing team.
Would rather we could have landed Suarez, but that's not going to happen. Benzema is quality though and is on a par with Higuian for me, it sounds like a lot of money, it might not be that entire figure all up front. But either way what do we do ? Sit back and say we're not going to pay over the odds and not sign anybody, or bite the bullet and get the players we need even if we have to spend more than we want?
Might sound crazy, but i'd rather Michu than Benzema. Benzema is a very limited footballer, he's a "fox in the box" type, which i'm not sure suits us.
Did all those Scousers you hung around with give you some sort of 'clueless' disease? Terrible post. Benzema is easily better than Michu. Not only that but "limited"? Come on mate. You're better than this.
I see Benzema as a more expensive Podolski, though Benzema is overrated, and scores fewer goals in better teams. Every time I've watched him, I've never been impressed. So I'd rather have Michu too.
Except that Giroud plays in our front 3 and I have yet to see him feature at wing, even last season where he struggled mightily up top.
Oh god some of you guys make me cringe. When were linked with Higuain, some people said that he was too one dimensional, nothing more than a finisher, glorified eduardo etc.etc. When were linked with Suarez, people boarded the moral outrage bus, (admittedly I wasn't too happy) pointed at his inefficiency, etc.etc. When we had clearly lost out on both, almost everyone went into meltdown When we were linked with michu, calls of average/overpriced rang throughout the board Now were linked with benzema, and people are talking about him as if he was adebayor, is there anyone that people wouldn't be upset with? Remember, this is the player that Wenger has always wanted, the one present he dreamed of whenever a transfer window opened, like a kid hoping for a puppy every Christmas. This was even before he went a bit senile His goal ratio isn't great, but that's because he has been playing consistently since he was 17, and at Madrid since he was 20? You can see that in his first few years at his first few years at Lyon he played plenty of games without scoring much, (due to his age), and in his final two seasons finally got his scoring boots on. The same happened at Madrid, the pressure got to him and its only in the last dew years that he's started banging them in again. He's hitting his best years now, most strikers don't hit the big numbers until they're around his age (apart from Owen), and his link up play and technique is much better than higuains, plus he's far more explosive. If we can get it done for around 35 mill it'll be great business, as it has the possibility of weakening the scousers and the spuds. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with a complete shock of a signing, maybe one of the higher scorers in the bundesliga?
Well I wouldn't be too torn up if we got Benzema. He'd probably do well in this league, and he'd be playing for us at his peak. I just don't think he's as good as his reputation. I wanted Higuain and Suarez, and I've already said I want Michu, so I don't know why voicing my preference for those players over Benzema would make you cringe.
