Went to bed last night in a somewhat confused, and slightly bemused, situation we are facing at Bristol City in that we don't seem to be able to swim in this new pond.

Imagine my shock about 20 mins ago when I turned on this electronic contraption and found out we had possibly spent 8 million pounds just because he scored a goal against us on the weekend. My usually inquisitive mind wants to scream from the rooftops WHY WHY WHY?

I made a conscious note of reviewing the earlier posts on the same subject and came up with my solely personal feeling that this could be a kneejerk reaction - or is it? Yes we have moved in to the deep end of the pond a bit further but can this be regarded as the new norm because I feel we have stepped over the line on this one and coming back to bite you comes to mind.

Like most on this site I was hoping for this type of deal to happen during the summer, but to no avail, and it's timing now smells a little sour to me, but as I say it's only my view from the colonies. If this kind of money has been available to SC all along the biggest unanswered question is why he and SL were shocked at the price of doing transfer business at the Championship level when we, as mere mortals, fully understood the rules.

I may take stick over this but I seriously question the decision to spend this kind of money on this kind of player at a time when we are having a tough go-around in our new league. Just doesn't sit well with me for some inexplicable reason and I just hope we don't regret it should the deal go ahead.

We are trying to move out of the comfort zone in our spending habits and if that is to try and prove to the others that we are a force to be reckoned with and we are prepared to stand up and be counted, so be it and good luck. Another issue I have is that it is all well and good showing that we can spit just as well as the so called wealthier teams but have we shown the wrong cards at the wrong time. Have we now set out our stall in the luxury department and the bargain basement is no longer our destination of choice? Let me remind you this player is coming from just up the road and not Madrid.

Whatever happens with this guy I wish him every success should he decide to join Bristol City but won't the 8 million price tag prove to be a millstone around his and our necks. Perhaps he and Kodija can strike up a goal scoring mega force that will light up this division and have the others pleading for us to sell the duo for 30 million. We can only hope.

My theory is that the board has reverted to their old ways, and Cotterill is pissed off. We're now losing, and Cotterill has told the board that they've ****ed up, and that they need to sign someone or he walks. Rather than fall back into League 1, Lansdown has gone into panic mode and has sanctioned immediate transfers. Gayle wouldn't come, so we're now trying to land Gray.

£9m for Gray is absolutely ridiculous, and it's turning Bristol City into a laughing stock around the country. If it pays off, we'll look like geniuses, but I think we all know that we need more than firepower upfront. We're missing signings on all fronts, and unless Lansdown is going to throw another £20m at filling those holes we're looking at a rough season.

Quick on the ball Ender and I'm still trying to come to terms with this news on what is a stunning day out here on Vancouver Island. What happens if Andre decides that if he is valued at 8 million by a club that is sailing by the seat of it's pants in slightly stormy weather, his wage demands should be commensurate with his price tag and that could undo the dressing room camaraderie that shone last season?

I think the way we played before the sending off should give us some confidence - if we took our chances (like Mr Gray did for them) we would have been out of sight

We are now approaching a point when it will soon be unlikely that any team with less than 20 000 gates and good merchandizing will suffer at the hands of the parachute payments, be prepared for a small mini league of been up there dropped back and been again is developing. this means that teams that have been up and down are able to fund transfers of more than £5m .... with ease!

of the last 12 relegated QPR have been twice,
    NORWICH gone back up
1 team in the first and
"10 " in the championship ( qpr feature twice )
    " 5 " in top 6/7 are fav's to go up!

soon it will be top 12 and bottom 12 with regular ups and downs rotating in the championship............

Andre Gray was I believe our main target in the summer and so nothing to do with his goal on Saturday and you can only buy player as quickly as the selling side is willing to let him go. It's a lot of money although its now being stated that's its 6mill with the extra 3 mill if get to the Premiership so if that happens that 3 mill will be a drop in the ocean

Plus getting Gray instead of Gayle means we get money from Palarse if they sell Bolasie

It's a strange old footballing world when we get virtually nothing for our success of last season but the ones who got relegated from the Prem receive riches galore. Bit unfair in my books and as jgf2 says it is beginning to create a scenario where those that rise cannot meet the necessary infrastructure on which to build a competitive team. Smhbcfc is right that we showed signs before the dismissal to show that we are possible of living up here.

Hello I have just seen this transfer news, can I ask how can your club afford this player at this price? I am not being funny as I have no idea of the ins and outs of your club, but have they won the euro millions or something?

Also how can this fit in with the financial fair play in place?

Best of luck for the season.
