EXCLUSIVE Swansea City have lodged a £2.5 million (€3m) offer for Getafe's Spain Under-21 international Alvaro Vazquez. THE VIEW FROM SPAIN Luis Herrera | Goal Spain Three years after his Liga debut with Espanyol in a game against Real Madrid, Alvaro Vazquez has failed to consolidate himself as a solid striker in the Spanish league. His move to Getafe got him a starting spot at the beginning of 2012-13, but he ended the season with just four goals in 28 appearances. He has enjoyed much more success with Spain's youth squads: he won the Silver Foot at the 2011 U-20 World Cup and was part of the squad that won the 2013 U-21 Euro Championship. Perhaps his bright moments on the international stage have been what keep him in the eye of several foreign teams. The Madrid club have yet to make a formal response to the bid for the striker, but are expected to agree a sale later this week. Vazquez, 22, has an outstanding record as a youth international with seven goals in 14 appearances for Spain's U21s and five in seven for the U20s. He returned from the 2011 World Youth Cup in Colombia as the tournament's joint leading scorer. A product of Espanyol's academy, he made his Liga debut in October 2010 and was one of several young players promoted to the financially troubled club's starting line-up by Mauricio Pochettino the following season. He moved to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on transfer deadline day last summer but struggled to make an impression on the club's scoring charts as they finished 10th. If Swansea's bid succeeds, Vazquez will increase the count of Spaniards to eight in former Getafe coach Michael Laudrup's senior squad. Alejandro Pozuelo, Jordi Amat and Jose Canas have all moved to the Liberty Stadium this summer, joining Pablo Hernandez, Michu and Chico, who joined in 2012. Angel Rangel has been at the club since 2007. Now this looks promising if true
Aliens 1986. If he just half as good as Pozuelo he will be perfect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEaq-4Vc1Dk - Nice goal
I don't think he has many options to be so choosy left to say no more spanish tbh. We are running out of time and there is not much around at this late stage...
Still think there are a few twists left yet Dai - just wish the transfer window would close before the season starts, is too much of a distraction! Any views on Odemwingie? Think he could do a job for us in the short term, and also think that last seasons QPR 'transfer' debacle had the shady fingers of cockney spiv Redknap all over it; believe that the man with the melting face led Odemwingie on and then denied everything....as usual!
More fun to have young players like Pozuelo, Shelvey and Vazquez then buying a old striker. Vazquez talent is there. He is wlling to learn and Laudrup is good with young players. Laudrup seem quite calm about this backup striker situation even though there is just very few days left. I think we will see a signing very soon.
Dai - apologies for always picking you up on your spelling, am a bit of a pedant! But it's Emnes!!!!!!!!!
Yes please, looks the business, bit of flair, right age, potential to add something else to our squad. Bring it on!
Grumpy old man time: imo players should only be allowed to put their surname on their shirts. Michu = Cuesta; Wilfried = Bony; Pablo H = Hernandez; Alvaro = Vasquez. Doesn't keep me awake at nights but it pisses me off....and yes I'm probably in a minority of one. Oh, and he looks a good player.
