BBC Humberside Sport just put on twitter that we are unlikely to lose Sone Aluko for the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria Great news!
As I'm not on Twitter, do they say on what basis they say its unlikely? Have they been told or are they basing it aluko not playing in Nigeria's last friendly before the tournament?
Good news but we could cover his absence if needed. Our fixtures over that period are hardly taxing. FA Cup 3rd rd, Wendies(h) 12/jan, Posh(a) 19/jan, Derby(h) or FA Cup 4th rd 26/jan. Then we could have matches called off due to the harsh winter that has been predicted recently.
If he did go and Nigeria went all the way, he'd miss more games than that, he'd definitely miss Millwall and Brighton, probably Charlton too.
I'd like to see their better options! There's no easy game in the championship and we would be greatly affected if he did go to Africa
Good point FT, even if he doesn't go to the ANC, then the 2 cup dates will be a chance to rest the likes of Sone, which with all the games they are playing, will be necessary.
Looking at the ANC it all starts on the 19th Jan (Peterboro away game) and ends(Final) on the 10th february the day after Brighton away. Maybe we could do a deal with Nigeria(if he was selected) and send him out after the Wendies home game on the 12th. Yes agreed. First Aluko has to be selected and then the winter conditions kick in. At least we would all get a Winter break.
Tickles mate, have you not heard ? There are no easy games in the championship. And yes,we're better than some of them, but only because we have better players. Players like Aluko...
