I've read with admiration the work being done by a number of people on the Forum sending football kit to Africa.
I noted the high cost of transporting the goods by courier and something like £55 was having to be paid at the other end by people who can ill afford it. I've spoken to my local priest who is involved in sending goods from time to time to Zambia and he has advised as follows:
many voluntary organisations ship goods to various parts of Africa by means of containers and it is possible to place smaller quantities in these containers at a cost of around £10 per box, paid at this end. He advises finding out from our African contacts which organisations ship to their area in this way.
I noted that the goods were being sent c/o St. Francis Xavier Church and he says many Catholic missionary societies ship out containers and that is one area to consider contacting if they are delivering to the area in question. The contact at St. Francis Xavier should be able to find out which Society ship into their area.
Hope this helps and good luck.
