In the absence of RBF next season, and despite the fact Resurgam has set up his cracking new prediction/gambling competition, there is now a lack of the old school type of prediction league where we just predict the score and scorer in our games. I mentioned the other day I'll be happy to take this on, however I do have an idea for a slightly different way of running it that would make it easier for me to manage, and would also guarantee that nobody forgets to predict (or misses the deadline) any games over the course of the season, so just want to run it past you to see how many would be up for it.

The idea I have is that we all have a guess at the outcomes, and first scorer of all our games, but we do it before the season actually kicks off, so I'd need all the predictions in before the first day of the season which I could then load up into a spreadsheet and would be a relative doddle for me to update. I appreciate there is a danger of some folk just going for a generic 2-1 Jerome for every game that could cause some duplication, but hopefully there is plenty of time for people to be a bit more creative and give it a bit more thought.

Waddya reckon, anyone think it would be a goer?

Good idea Munky. I've also been thinking about doing the line-up prediction league in the absence of RBF, but would only do the line-up side if your idea takes off.

That would work, and if I do run my one the way I've suggested it would give people less things to have to worry about each week. I enjoyed RBF's league the past few seasons, though I have to admit I'd have preferred to have kept the scoreline/goalscorer one seperate and not over-complicate it, and found it a bit odd that you could score as many points for randomly guessing the number of corners as you would nailing the final score bang on.

Don't want to tread on any toes or anything, and think these three could all work well together.

I was wary of managing both the line-up and score prediction, so it'd suit me Munky. :emoticon-0148-yes:

    Morning Munky,

As much as Resurgam´s idea sounds like a lot of fun, and would be something new, there always ought to be room for a prediction league solely based around Norwich´s games, which was the original CPL concept, after all, so I´d support it, as much as I could, anyway.

    .........and to Rick,

I´d be hugely pleased and grateful, if you could find the time to continue with the line-up predictions, in some shape or form, as they have been going for almost as long as the CPL, and I´m sure for some, match day wouldn´t seem quite the same without them.

    <cheers>

Totally agree. Thoroughly enjoyed RBF' s CPL. and looked forward to predicting the various elements of it. Would love for some version of it to continue.

Excellent idea, but my only reservation is that there are two transfer windows to consider. It is possible a predicted goalscorer could be out for the season early or even be transferred. If this could be factored in I'd be in too

Yeah, this is a good point that I thought to myself just this morning as I was making my predictions. Anyone who predicts this early could be at a massive disadvantage if we sign another striker or two later in the transfer window. How about if I just kept it nice and simple, predict the score in all our games and I'll award three points for a spot on prediction, and one point if you get the outcome right, but not the exact scoreline.

By the way my first attempt saw us finishing the season with 59 points, which even my my standards has to be just a shade optimistic!

Agree with others that it would be good to keep the line-up prediction going as well so hopefully someone can take that on, I just like the idea of keeping one prediction league simple and basic and based on just the results.

I'd like to do the line-up prediction on the same format as RBF's last year, complete with Jokers. I may try it out with a Pre-season competition (just to get the hang of it), though this wouldn't affect the main version which will start with Palace.

I've made a spreadsheet for this but any 'tricks of the trade' either here or as a private message would be most welcome, RBF, if you have the time.

You´re welcome to send me a pm any time Rick, if there´s anything you want to ask, I do pop in now and again, so I will see it sometime or other, and I will answer it, if it´s there to be answered. <ok>

Thanks RBF. I'm not anticipating any real problems, but it's always good to have a back-up who's more experienced!
