You may recall a while back that I wrote a poem based upon the song "The Green Field of Frace/Willie McBride" called the Tears of Gentleman Jim and I explained that my original intent was to write alternate lyrics for the song "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag". Well, I have recently been thinking of other songs that could potentially be re-written to suit a football club or player and I thought, as a bit of fun, to suggest potential songs and the players or clubs they could be re-written to fit. So here are two ideas I came up with - based on Pompey related stuff, though they're probably not the best lyrics in the world but it's only a bit of fun after all - but I would be interested in anything anyone else can think of: Victoria Wood's Ann Widdecombe song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhfbYtbpNxY The chimes are ringing loudly The football’s on its way The stadium is ready For the match is on today Leading the procession An old familiar friend The manger and leader On who we do depend Guy Whittingham, Guy Whittingham we place our hopes on you This is true! Not Cotterill, or Appleton, and not Paul Hart, its a fresh start It's a fresh start! Simon and Garfunkel Mrs Robinson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C1BCAgu2I8 And here’s to you David Connolly Jesus know you’ll score another goal God bless you, please, David Connolly We’re sure we’ll score whenever you will play Hey! Hey! Hey!
I did this back on the old 606 during our great escape season! Though before said great escape started, I shall see if I can find any. I know I changed the lyrics of The Scientist by Coldplay and Sleep by Texas! Probably did some others as well.
