https://www.a-love-supreme.com/single-post/mowbray-on-ba-and-bennette BY SEAMUS MCGREGOR MOWBRAY ON BA AND BENNETTE please log in to view this image As Abdoullah Ba and Jewison Bennette approach their one-year anniversary at Sunderland (they both signed in the last week of August 2022) Tony Mowbray has discussed their progression so far, and what they need to do to improve their game. HARD TASK "I'm sure they would have hoped to have broken through that glass ceiling but in my mind they have got a very difficult task, they are trying to dislodge Patrick Roberts or Jack Clarke from our team because we see them both being wide attackers really." PROGRESSION "They're still working on the language and therefore that natural integration. I don't have the stats to hand on how much they've played but it feels to me as if Abdoullah would be well into double figures for appearances in the Championship and is that progression for him? I think so." JEWI "Jewison has come off the bench a few times and again, he's really delicate of age, he's only just turned 19 I think. So I don't sit here and judge other than that they need to keep working, improving their weaknesses after training with the coaches. Jewison needs to keep working on skipping past people and putting good quality crosses in, on getting to the back stick when it's on the opposite flank." BA BETTER OUT WIDE "Abdoullah has got wonderful talent and dynamic talent, and we feel he's probably better cutting in from wide rather than playing in the middle. I think he just has to be patient and the days where it's not quite working for Clarke, he becomes the option. There were good signs [in the pre-season friendly] against Real Mallorca, for example. They're doing OK. And I think that's OK, if that makes sense." TRY TO BREAK THROUGH "They're young lads trying to break through at a Championship club and that's not easy, you don't just turn up and get in the team. They're young players who have to try and break in and there is tough competition for them in their positions." https://www.a-love-supreme.com/single-post/tm-attack-best-form-of-defence BY THOMAS THORNTON TM: ATTACK BEST FORM OF DEFENCE please log in to view this image Despite Sunderland's lack of cutting edge up front, and the fact Sunderland haven't kept a clean sheet in their last 11 matches in all competitions (including pre-season), Tony Mowbray is reluctant to change the balance of play that proved so successful for this exciting young team last season. He's recently said the club are looking to bring in more attacking reinforcements to add a bit of killer instinct in the opposition's box. PRESTON "I don't think we were under huge pressure [at Preston]," said Mowbray. "I didn't feel they were going to score. Their corners were really dangerous but I thought Anthony Patterson was good on set-plays." WASN'T VULNERABLE "I didn't feel vulnerable. In the second half, I genuinely didn't think they could have a shot never mind score a goal, yet we gifted them it. I think you take away the attacking prowess of the team by trying to put another defender in there and shore it up just because we are not scoring goals." IT WILL CLICK "We are not far away from being pretty good, I think, and somewhere along the line this season that is going to click into place and we're going to be talking about a team that scores in every game and a team that can run away with games and keep scoring."
Agreed that Ba's future is out wide. I don't know which side but I don't see him holding down a central role.

It seems that TM is being a lot more positive in this last week or so and I hope that transfers to the players as well
