PATIENCE OVER THE SUMMER “Obviously I had a few offers from abroad but I spoke to the manager quite early in the window. He kind of said ‘listen it’s something that we want to do. It might take a bit of time.’ We had to be patient, it obviously would have been nice to get in and have a full pre-season but it didn’t pan out that way. There were not many Championship clubs that excited me but this one did massively, the size of the club, the stadium, the players, how they did last year, obviously the manager. Everything about it just ticked so many boxes. Once I heard they were interested it was kind of the only place I wanted to be.” MOWBRAY "I have known the manager for a long time, we have a good relationship and it's nice to have someone you know has a lot of belief in you as a football player. It's not something I see as pressure or expectation, I have a belief in my ability that I'll do things well for this club, create goals, score goals, that's my main job. I think that's what I was brought into the club to try and help with. It's a strength of my game to find the goal and create. Obviously I still need to get a little bit fitter and the off-the-ball stuff can still use some work. I'm here to try and help at the top end of the pitch and hopefully I can do that. And, like I said, it's nice when the manager has that belief in you." TEAMMATES “Obviously I know Corry Evans from before and we’re pretty close. I spoke to him a lot over the summer and he went through a lot of things with me so I knew a bit about the club. There are quite a few players here that I’ve played against over the years, Danny, Pritch, Clarky, Pat so it’s been pretty easy to fit in and I’ve really enjoyed my time so far.” INJURIES "The way I see it, it’s part and parcel of football, you get injuries. I’d had nothing until those so it was a tough couple of years but I feel like last season I could have played a lot more. I felt when I did play I affected football matches. I’ve been back now for almost 18 months so feel like I’m kind of there and ready to prove a few points.” EXCITING PLAYERS "I think because of the players who play at the top end of the pitch for this club, Clarkey and Pat and Pritch it’s kind of all interchangeable. Listen, they excite me because they are creative players as well and I know they’ll find me in the box and I’ll definitely score goals. It’s exciting to be playing with the likes of those players and hopefully we can kind of gel together pretty quickly and start finding the net.” FITNESS "You can do as much running and stuff as you can but it doesn't replicate a training week. The last two weeks have been really good for me, I feel good, I feel fit and it was nice to get 55ish minutes [including injury time] on Tuesday. I felt pretty good the last 10-15 minutes but it's a foundation to build on and hopefully I can do that." CREWE DEFEAT "I think first and foremost it’s not the result that we wanted. I thought in the second half we played a lot better and created enough chances to win the game, but football is obviously about putting the ball in the net. We didn't manage to do that and then penalties is obviously a bit of a lottery. We are really disappointed to go out the way we did but on a personal note it's nice for me to make my debut and hopefully I can build on that performance." COUPLE OF CHANCES "Yeah I probably had two pretty good chances that probably one of them should have been put away. The last one I thought was a good save at full stretch. The first one was a good block from the defender. We probably did enough in the second half and created enough to win the game. Like I said before it's about putting the ball in the net and unfortunately we didn't do that."
What do you mean, no wages involved? Your guess is as good as mine regarding why it took a while to bring Dack in. Wage / contract negotiations between the club and his agent maybe - started with a fair gap between offer and demand, but a gap that both sides thought was surmountable.
Sorry, no fee involved. No idea why I typed wages. Having a cracking day today - this is nature's way of telling me I should do some ****ing work instead of spending my life on here
I am just delighted to here it was something identified early by the club, direct from the horses mouth. Shows a little bit how Mowbray is influential in transfers, contrary to what journalists say. Transfers, even free ones, arent an overnight process. If it just Dack and Mowbray it would have been done then and there probably. A cast of thousands make a transfer happen these days. A mate is involved in the agent side of things and some of the tales he tells me are mad. You dont just have 1 agent, often it is a team, then a team on the club side. Negotiations by nature are both sides trying to squeeze. Then it is lawyers after that, and they can be picky at the best of times. In this instance we have a coach in Mowbray who has been the key man as a go between. Along with Venus as well, he is a really smart fella by all accounts and is listened to. Fingers crossed on Dack. I have a good pal who is a blackburn rovers fan and he says he is absolutely brilliant. Seems a good chance he will be decent for us, and make us better.
