Charlton has said that he was "so pleased with the way it has turned out" with Van Gaal. Is he not a bit premature? Some including Charlton think it is sorted. I am not so sure and I reserve judgement until I see the first ten matches particularly at home against mid table teams and away to big teams. All teams managed by LVG have started slowly. There is no reason why United would be any different. I am still worried that many of the players are still Fergie players. By that I mean good playing for fergie but average or rubbish for anyone else. What are the reasons for that huge confidence?
But Van Gaal seems as ruthless as Fergie and will throw them out if that's the case and get better players in. I was impressed with the way he criticised your tour schedule and made some changes and told the press that he will sort the tour to meet the needs of the squad rather than the commercial interests. Moyes wouldn't have fronted up like that.
Time will tell Christian, like you would prefer to comment after the first 10 games. Looking at the first 10, we should be close to maximum in most games. Everton is perhaps the first real test, and no 9 is when Jose's little horse arrives at Old Trafford, That might be the ideal time to send Jose's pony to the knackers yard
The players will take the foot off the gas when the transfer window shuts, not a wum just my opinion before you all get abusive
Arguably the difference is that Voronin and Aspas had done close to bugger all in their careers previously to impressing against whichever Austrian or Thai team they tore apart in pre-season whereas most of the United squad have won the odd bit of silverware in the past so there is some hope that with the right guidance they could be half decent again. That's not to say that the Voronin / Aspas comparison shouldn't become the benchmark for all pre-season football performances going forwards. Maybe you could start a petition?
It is for me when watching Liverpool's pre-season. Suso and Pacheco have had stormers in recent years too. It basically tells me that someone can look the bollox in the right circumstances but not when it comes to the real deal. Reserves and youth leagues are exactly the same.
No it was in relation to Utd as im on your board on a Utd thread I think this from VG's comments about the squad (although I do believe you will sign players) and the players busting a gut to be part of it. They will want to prove last season wasnt down to them, they wont get the same wage should they be sold, they wont be at as big of a club should they be sold etc etc Would you be happy with your defence or team for that matter going into the new season with this squad? Sure Ferguson got every ounce out of them and more but will VG? Its still Fergusons team
Youve not been paying attention all pre season have you. The united of last season is dead. Never to be spoken of or referred to again.
We all wish that could be true. Just start from SAF leaving and take it from there. Unfortunately we are where we are. Last season happened and LVG has to pick up from that point. With all the consequences. The signs are encouraging but to say that we are sorted is really premature.
We were there because of a combination of poor management and a lack of respect for that managers terrible instructions. Nothing else. Our basic team was and always will be top 4 material. Thats the minimum level. Any capable manager will get more out of the side. The top tier managers will dominate.
