Alonso told Sky that if he could pick any driver to challenge in karts, street cars, or F1 machines, it would be Schumacher.
Alonso said: "I would choose Michael Schumacher, who will always be a champion for all of us, because we respect a driver who has won seven world championships.
"He is a driver who has nothing more to prove and was always very fast."

Ive watched MS in go karts before and I would agree he is one of the best go karters. but 'nothing more to prove' and 'was fast' are very good descriptions <ok>

I've been waiting to see a real scrap between these two since his return because I still think MSC has it. He does make poor decisions but the speed is still there as he proved this year.

I agree, there have been some scraps in China and India this year. If they had machines capable of results at the same level, it would be fun to watch both wise drivers race properly since 2006.

He's improved. Of that there can be little doubt. But although closer, he's behind Rosberg by quite a sizeable margin for the most part; and this is how I expect it to continue next year.

Yes, indeed it would. I don't usually do 'hypothetical', but in this case I have not the slightest hesitation in predicting the outcome of them both in competitive cars at the same time: 3 - 0 to Alonso.

N.B. Apologies to EMSC. You know it's nothing personal. I also know you have become far more pragmatic these days.

Unfortunately, in the same cars, I would expect him to get schooled by Alonso. His reactions won't be what they used to be, I'd be very surprised if he manages to finish ahead of Rosberg next season (and I hope this quote won't come back to bite me on the arse a year from now!)

Alonso would beat Schumacher now in the same car but in Schumachers peak he would destroy Alonso in the same car and everyone else including Ayrton Senna.

Please, do not include Senna in the thread when not needed.

IMO Schumacher's best performance since coming back was in Canada this year, but even that wasn't as good as he used to be. He's improving, but the old Schumacher isn't coming back.

It would be great to see the Schumacher of old return though. We can live in hope. :)

We've seen glimpses. Barrichello will attest to that. On the other hand, Hamilton is perhaps too young to know…
