Fernando Alonso is genius and figure. It is on the track and is in finance. For something is among the best paid athletes in the world, with about EUR 30 million annual compensation. In addition to all this, the two-time Formula 1 world champion also appears as one of the clients of the bancoHSBC of Geneva, according to the information that the computer Hervé Falciani stole the entity and handed over to the French authorities, and which now reveals an investigation coordinated by the ICIJ and Le Monde, in which participates the confidential exclusively for Spain. Starting tomorrow, in collaboration with La Sexta, this newspaper will publish the names of Spaniards who had accounts in the State.

Between 2006 and 2007, current McLaren driver had a maximum balance of 42 million dollars in an account opened in the year 2002, as evidenced by its tab in the entity. A tab which contains your profession then: "Professional pilot in the Renault F1 team". The Bank's representatives had registered, in addition to their personal addresses in Switzerland and in the United Kingdom, his father in Oviedo. To contact this single proxy account, detallabanhacerlo "by DHL".

It is a year since Alonso to leave Spain to be signed by Renault. Since then, has lived in Great Britain first and Switzerland then. Then he returned to Spain and now resides in Dubai.

The legal advisers of the pilot explained aEl confidential that their situation has been and is in rule and who has never had problems with the Spanish Hacienda, or with those of other countries. For this reason, added, the Treasury even tried to contact him when, to do with the 'list Falciani' in May 2010, will get in touch with 659 evaders so they regularize their situation.

Fernando Alonso brought his legal residence to Spain a year after Treasury seized the list. So the newspaper The Daily Mail claimed it, in May 2011. By its activity, you spend more than 90% of their time outside Spain and revenues come primarily in foreign entities. Melbourne, the first Grand Prix of the season, is the town where the Spanish pilot more nights (more than one week) will be in one place all season.

Currently, Alonso lives in Dubai for personal and logistical reasons, chosen as strategic point for their travel to European, American and Asian races, as well as the greater proximity to Japan, headquarters of Honda.

If they can show that HSBC sold it to them as tax avoidance (which is legal), not tax evasion (which is illegal) then no prison, at least for any tax dodged from the UK authorities.

The only people who go to prison in the UK for tax fraud are those who deny it initially or try to cover their tracks through an investigation. But if you're Harry Redknapp and open a bank account in the name of your dog, then that is also apparently okay..........

However, in Flavio's case, I will make an exception and hope they throw the sweaty old fat bag into jail.

Are you surprised? Im pretty sure all rich figures in F1 are 'tax avoiding' in someway. How many of them live in tax havens?

Spain have been putting people like Messi on public trials for tax evading. The list was the real big revelation more so than Alonso, Schumacher and co on it.

They might not stick people in prison in the UK, but high profile people like Alonso will have their names thrown under a bus and be made an example of.

And the fact is by no surprise Flavio is on that list (again for tax evading) next to African blood diamond 'traders' who like Alonso, 'live in Dubai'.

The problem is that those who arrange tax dodging are normally many times smarter than those brought in to investigate it. One pays handsomely, one pays about 25k.

INCLUDED in the CONTROVERSIAL list of clients of the HSBC Alonso brought lawsuits against the use of its name in the 'list Falciani' "Suspicion gets into a unblemished behavior", ensure the Spanish pilot advisors.

    MIGUEL SANZ09/02/15-15:03.

Fernando Alonso, through his aides, lodged several demands for what understand as a misuse of his image in the controversial 'List Falciani' customers of HSBC in Geneva, many of them related to the evasion of taxes in their home countries between 2006 and 2007.

The Spanish driver had account in the Bank between 2002 and 2010, according to the revelation made by media such as The Guardian, Le Monde or the confidential, and has caused a tremendous stir. "Fernando lived there and paid there. Never had anything in Spain since he went to live in England with one hand in front and one behind,"assures mark the Asturian environment.

Greater discomfort comes from damage to the image of the World Formula 1 champion to have mixed in this list of clients who, in effect, then regularized their situation with Treasury, including Valentino Rossi (30 million euros), and those who did not have to do so because they were simply customers of the Bank, and that Treasury never asked for information.

The aforementioned information underscores that Alonso had a heritage of 42 million dollars in four accounts. In 2011, Fernando settled in Spain and then moved it to Dubai, where he currently resides.

In the list are sportspeople or engine leaders like Michael Schumacher, Heikki Kovalainen and Flavio Briatore.

The list includes 4,000 people related to Spain with a stud of opaque € 1.8 billion.

I'd wait until things become a little clearer in the mainstream media. This culture within this bank was amended and changed from 2008 and the authorities will have known for ages. If they weren't aware, HSBC would not have changed and exited the relationships of 70% of their Swiss Private Bank customers.

It just happens to be 'handed' to Panorama, a BBC programme, 3 months before an election.

The Tories and Labour will too and fro, pointing fingers and blaming each other. It's a fantastic distraction from the key political issues such as benefit tourism, forced immigration, an NHS ready to burst and living standards reducing year on year.

Joe Bloggs will vote one or the other party in and Britain will have been with one of two parties for the best part of a century.

HSBC will get a fine, no one will go to jail, and the empty politics will continue for another 4 years.

Would just like to note the title here was from me reading Spanish twitter users and that the English media hadn't even mentioned it yet so I was working off auto translator. The Spanish sites were basically putting Fernando's name in that list of 'suspected tax evaders'. Obviously I know of tax avoidance and that its very common for the very rich, but tax evasion I know you can get in deep **** with the tax man for that no matter who you are.

In my mistake I probably jumped the gun with the title, but in my defence the media weren't giving the full story at the time it was just basically titled all over; 'Alonso, Schumacher and Rossi tax evading? Whistle blower reveals names of secret accounts filtering money between countries'

And my response was basically 'Holy ****, you are so going to get it'. But considering he is high profile athlete/celebrity the governments would like nothing more than to make examples out of these people to get them off their backs and their other political buddies.

I smell a court case even if Alonso did follow the law and looking at Flavio's record they should arrest him now before he decides to skip town again!

All they need to do to avoid prosecution is to move to UK. I believe there is only 1 person out of the 7000 who were reported to HMRC that has been prosecuted!!!! Where as in France they say that 98% of people with Swiss bank accounts are avoiding tax liabilities and I think are to be investigated!!!
The tax system in the UK needs changing but it's not in any of the politicians interests (no matter what party) so I doubt it will ever change.
Anyway back to F1. Force India seem to now be blaming Marussia for then not getting to the first or second pre season tests. Why? Because their suppliers have requested they be paid!!! Previously suppliers would give credit but Force India say they wont give them credit terms after the suppliers lost so much with Marussia and Caterham going under.

Like I have said before I have every sympathy for the small teams in F1 and the fundamentally flawed system that prevents even competition, but in the real world if you don't pay you don't get.

I guess this is why the UK is doing better economically than the rest of the world. Must be all the rich people paying their way out of a jail sentence for tax evading ;)

Not that this is a political blog, but if the law permits it, it is not illegal. The laws, most of which have remained the same for the last 20 years need to be amended accordingly.

Along the same lines of, I see you have claimed 26k in untitled benefits whilst working cash in hand and not paying tax, so I herby order you to pay 1 pound a week out of your future benefits?

Whichever end of the scale you look at the law is flawed, neither are better than the other
